As you know I'm in the market for a diamond. Thank you all for your comments on the diamxray and video I posted.

I was about to decide then I saw another great one on consignment and now I'm torn between the two.

Here is the comparison and I would really really appreciate your comment.

A:

2.26. H. SI2. GIA XXX AGS Ideal. Isee2 9.4. Transparent line in table. Eye clean

B:

2.36. I. SI1. AGS Ideal. Hearts & Arrows. Medium blue. Colorimeter confirms low H high I. Isee2 9.6. Tiny black inclusion in table. Eye clean (clarifying at what distance it is eye c lean)

0.1mm difference in diameter. Price almost same.

Assuming that both perform great, not noticeable diff, which one would you chose and why?

Thank you thank you thank you!

really hard to comment w/o more information and pics.

coin toss?

Is the consignment diamond the one advertised by Good Old Gold today?

I'm not a fan of black crystals in my diamond so I would prefer the GIA stone.

I'd like to see the link to the second stone.

What a fantastic post. I loved seeing all the information you provided and then being able to see the videos of them as well. So interesting to see how all the variables come together, there was soooo much information provided, I think it was really interesting to look at all of it and then also see the diamonds performance to top it off on a video!

Just my 2 cents, so take it with a grain of salt, I found myself drawn to the one on the right, the HnA one, there was something about it that seemed a little bit more symmetrical and you could see the arrows clearly. Without the video I may have been unsure about the Fluor (I have no experience with Fluor).

What did Johnathon have to say?

Thank you 2023 for sharing your views. i like the I (right one) being visibly larger. And it seems to give out bigger white flashes under spot light (is that how you describe). Just on paper, more carat weight+higher clarity+lower color but w/ medium fluor+H&A seems a better deal. however, that's based on the assumption that the grading is consistent between the two labs. My biggest worries are: 1) GIA would have given the I (right one) lower grading on clarity and color. 2) that the 2 black crystals are visible without loupe.

Jonathan said they are both eye clean and the colorimeter confirms the I being a low H high I.

Here in HK no one knows about AGS and i feel strongly about getting a GIA cert. So i will pay to have the I GIA graded if i do go with it. HOwever, that would mean i need to purchase the stone first. By the time GIA finish grading the stone, i would have missed the 30 day return period even if the stone comes back a grade lower in clarity and color.

I showed my husband the video (as obviously all the stats mean nothing to him). It only kept his attention for ten seconds lol, but he liked the one on the left! I want to look at the video again and all the info you posted but am just hopping onto a plane. Hopefully someone else with experience with fluor and also your other concerns will get back to you soon.

Why may I ask is it so important to have that GIA piece of paper? Just curious.

If Jonathan says it is eye clean I would believe him.

I have a stone w/ SB fluor and it is the coolest effect ever! JMHO. :)

The H&A stone is the clear winner for me visually.

It's both for mind clean and practical reasons. AGS is not recognized in this part of the world. I did not know about it until this forum. Friends in the trade recommend against it. Generally speaking, only GIA and brands like Leo, Tiffany, Cartier are seen as legit. And since it is a fact that there is possibility that two labs can grade the same diamond differently, I do want a GIA report to put my mind at ease.

The practical reason is i need a GIA report if i ever want to resell it here.

I have no worries about the cut grade as the H&A image is evident on the report. But color and clarity are diff things.

Jonathan has been very patient and helpful in the process. I do trust his eyes. My concerns may not seem logical to some, but hey, spending this much on a crystal isn't a very logical thing anyway! :rodent:

I'd have to choose the I SI1. Better cut, better clarity. Color helped by med fluoro.

DS, did you see the 2 black inclusions in middle of the table? I wonder if I would see it in real life... They are tiny black crystals.

Not DS, but if Jonathan says it is eye clean I'd take his word; those inclusions look very small. Maybe ask if Sarah can look at it too - he often does that, saying "she has younger eagle eyes". :)

First, thank you all for reading and responding to my posts. Now, reporting the decision... I'm going with the .................................

2.36 I

Jonathan clarified that the crystals are transparent not black :). The feather is also tiny and under the star facet. Sarah said the inclusions are hard to find without loupe. Now that I have a good idea of the clarity, I feel much more comfortable to give on the color. I dont have a preference for fluor but in this case, the medium blue is a nice bonus.

The stone will be sent to GIA for grading so I guess it wont see it until October!

Thank you all again!

From the video, I like the one on the right better. Gorgeous stones!

Jonathan asked Sarah to look at both diamonds before I requested it. He must have read your post :rodent:

And you are right, they look small when magnified, they are likely v v small in real life. ;)

Congrats.

I'd wait to send it to GIA. Is anyone in your home country going to ask to see your diamond grading certificate? If you ever do need to resell it, you could send it to be graded by GIA then (or hope that AGS is more recognized by that point. Personally, I'd rather have an AGS-graded stone that included a grade for light performance than a GIA-graded stone).

You are a genius  I just googled GIA and found that they have onsite grading service in HK. I can just have the diamond shipped to HK then decide if I want to ave it graded now or later! Thank you! Big hug!

Congratulations GreenBling! I'm so happy that you found the perfect stone! It's gorgeous!
