Help please , i think i have found the ideal diamond for my GF's engagement ring , but i was looking for 2nd opinions please.
it is 1350 USD , i would be having it shipped to the UK

It is a GIA stone :-

it will be going into a ring setting with 4 prongs

Advice please , as i have my finger on the button ready to buy :)

Do you have a photo/aset of the stone? Please don't buy without a photo and aset... at least a photo. You CANNOT but a fancy cut with out photo and aset. Numbers means nothing in fancy cuts. It is buying blind. I do not know anything about princess cuts but other more knowledgeable members will gladly help you if you post your budget and specs.

I also agree with the previous comment. FC are impossible to judge on specs alone. Just my HO but drop in color and clarity will still get a beaitiful stone just alittle larger than 1/2 carat...just saying.

Thank you guys for your wise words , i have requested a ASET , i have been told 5 working days...from James Allen.

I have already bought the ring setting , so i am kinda stuck on size.

Center stone can be 4.5 mm

The jeweler said 0.52 size would be fine for that size ring setting...

What size would you guys suggest i can go upto ?

I know size doesn't really matter that being said the princess cut always looks smaller when set. IDK you want a beauitufl stone. So I am going to close mouth. I'm assuming the prepurchased setting was "THE one" she fell in love with.

Hi , basically the ring setting is based on a ring we originally both liked after seeing 100's of rings , so indeed it is one of the few we liked the look of....the ring we spotted originally was around 3200 uk pounds , based on me finding a very good wholesaler of ring settings , setting up a trade account and buying the diamond online , i will of saved around 50 % from the retail price , what a romantic !!!! i am :)

But i feel i have gone the extra mile and hopefully at the end of the whole situation of bought my GF the ring she really liked at the best possible price !!

But i am happy to listen to all opinions , i am totally open to all ideas :)

So what will the ASET report give me ?

They have told me , i would have 24 hours to make the decision , what should i be looking for in the ASET report to confirm it is a good deal etc ?

Hmmm , i noticed that a 0.52 princess on some sites is around 4.6 mm x 4.52 , so will my 4.5 ring setting be okay ? i imagine there will be some wiggle room in the setting , if it allows for 4.5 mm

I have just put 2 more diamonds on hold for ASET test , thank you so much for recommending i do this , i shall post up the pictures and ask for advice when they arrive.

Oh my wait wait!! Can you post the links of the stones? We want to look at it before you request ASETS to make sure that the stones have great faceting and shows promise. JA will only do 3 asets for free so you don't want to waste them on duds! So post links to the stones. Also tel us your budget, color and clarity preference. Good to know about the setting. Yes, most setting have an approximate measurements for the stone. Please ask your jeweler what is the min to max size the ring can hold. Do you have a photo of the setting?

Why are you going with such high color and clarity? I think in princess cut you can go all the way down to an H and be very white, especially in your ct range. Also, are ok with an SI1 that is eye clean? Need to widen your specs so we can have more stones to choose from. Or is the D/E and VVS2 a mind clean thing?

Thank you for the 2 links, please excuse my ignorance, but is AGS cert as good as GIA? Or are they equally respected? I've read that some certs over state the colours, clarity etc

Sl2 kind of I guess through ignorance does not seem to appeal, so ideally a vvs2 or better ideally

My preference was originally based on the 4 c's but I must say I am learning more each time thankfully.

So I am open to new options, I guess I am wanting the best diamond possible.

I must admit I have not explored whiteflash website. But I am liking all the extra information they offer, size in mm, ASET imagines etc

Any others you think look to be a good buy?

P. S what does not appear about the JA stones? I must admit the images are not inspiring, but I guess that's where the ASET will come into play?

I think what some of the above posters were trying to suggest is the fact that with the naked eye, one cannot make a distinction between a VVS2 vs an eye clean SI1. You could save thousands -- or put it towards a bigger rock.

Also, once the stone is set, its very difficult for someone to distinguish between D - G (sometimes H). So you could save thousands there again as well.

Basically, why pay for something that you won't notice? While size is definitely noticeable...

The emphasis on ASET is to ensure that the stone is cut in a way that maximizes its light performance. This will have a greater impact on the diamond's beauty than either color or clarity.

But if you want the D or E color and VVS2 because its rare, thats a good reason as any. But 9/10 people (outside of highly trained eyes) wouldn't be able to tell the difference between D VVS2 vs eye clean G SI1.

I am not crazy about the faceting of the JA stones. If you don't like the photo, it doesn't matter what the aset tells you. Asets shows you light return/leakage. And since I have no idea what I am doing, I am going with a branded Whiteflash ACA coz it is a no brainer. It is a guaranteed beauty ;)) LOL I feel like the blind leading the blind... but no worries, ACA line is a top of the line cut. They also have an awesome customer service. AGS is a very respected lab. They actually have a stricter cut grade compared to GIA. A stone has to pass they light performance test to receive the AGS 0 light performance grade. Essentially they are vetting the stones.

Thank you once again for your reply, I am steadily learning more and more, I shall investigate whiteflash in the morning, it is 4.22am here in the UK, I was in DC last week, so my body still on DC time!

If you don't mind I shall take a look in the morning and post a few of the ones I like the look of and hopefully you will be able to give me your opinion on which might be best :)

I shall also look into whiteflash fees for shipping internationally.

I have already spotted for me in the UK payment is bank transfer only.

But fingers crossed free shipping :)

You can call Whiteflash and ask the gemologist to look at the stones and give their opinions on facet pattern and performance. Also when you pick your top 2 or 3 you can have them make a short video of the stones side by side so you can compare them.

Hoping someone more knowledgeable in princess cut will chime in and save you from my bumbling well meaning advice :D
