Hello!

I am new to the forum but have found PriceScope to be incredibly helpful in my research and search for the right stone!

I am supposed to decide quickly between two options; one stone I have seen myself (I live abroad) and one online:

Option A: I have seen and it looks very nice; I like the shape and it has chunky cuts like an AVC.
Old Mine Cut, VVS1, E Color, 1.08 carats.
Polish: Very Good
Fluorescence: None
6.15 x 5.71 x 3.97

Option B: http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/11151/

They are both nearly the same price, size, spec, it's just that perhaps the GOG has a better cut and sliiiightly larger surface area (though, I have a hard time imagining, is it going to look noticeably larger?). It's just that for the same price, the GOG stone is a VS1 (Option A is a VVS1) and the flaw is near the center. If I could see the stones side by side perhaps it would be easier to make a decision but was hoping hear some opinions and insight from others. I need to make a decision within a day or so! O_o

Thank you!!

Without seeing pictures of the first stone, no-one is going to be able to help you. You can't buy old cut stones by numbers alone.

Have you got a photo you can share with us? Having said that, the August Vintage Cushion will always be a beautiful stone and unless the OMC is a fabulous performer (most of them are not) it will be hard to beat. It just depends on what you are after. Do you want a true old cut stone or more of a perfect performer?

Personally, if they are the grades (and unless the first stone has a GIA/AGS cert I would question the validity of the claims) I would likely choose the bigger stone. VVS1 is overkill.

Having not seen either stone in person, I would be inclined to go with the AVC as I value performance, and ofcourse to seal the deal you can always upgrade with GOG. :naughty:

Thank you to both posters who replied so quickly! I know, it's impossible without a photo of the other stone, but I only have a crappy photo on my iphone...still, your advice soothed me, I believe I will be going for the AVC! Thank you again! :wavey:

Oh yeah, that's definitely a visual difference. The AVC will look much bigger. I would go for the AVC as well. You will be happy you did.

Hi Hibiscus,

I believe you are making the right decision choosing the AVR, with OMC, they can vary so much it's impossible to judge without clear, detailed images. This way you are going for the ' sure thing' performance wise. Please post photos when you get it! :wavey:

I'd get the AVC. The cut has been optimized for performance, plus you are guaranteed that it won't have old-cut issues like chips, too-thin girdle, or windowing problems.
