Hey Everyone,
I wanted to get your expert opinions on an upgrade that my husband and I are in the process of doing. We've only been married a bit less than a year but I already have DSS (naughty girl). I'm going to blame my fat fingers LOL. I currently have a gorgeous, albeit smallish, 0.83 ACA from Whiteflash. I love their diamonds and their awesome customer service so I'm sticking with them for this upgrade (not to mention their great upgrade policy). My question is about the new diamond because it has strong fluorescence and I'm new to this type of diamond. I've read all of the information on PS and I think that ready to try it because they look so interesting. I'll post the specs and link below and please let me know what you think of the new diamond. Is it big enough of a size upgrade (0.83 to 1.14). I'm going down from an I to a J in color. Also what about the clouds and crystals on the table? What do you think of the fluorescence in J? Thanks so much for your input!

BTW, this is going to be my birthday present, Christmas and Valentine's rolled into one. We started down this road because my baby came early and we weren't able to pick a push present :((

AGS 0 for light performance trumps HCA, so there's no reason to even run HCA on an AGS 0 stone. It's already been proven to have ideal light performance. HCA is a weed-out tool for those stones that aren't graded by AGS essentially.

Fluor is very cool - less than 0.2% of all stones that exhibit fluor will have any haziness / oiliness in UV light according to GIA. And it can make stones (like this J) face up slightly whiter in UV light (outside). Looks like a nice stone - have it looked at to verify it has no ill effects from the fluor and is eye clean to your standards.

Thank you so much. I'll try to go in person to look at this one. I see that you have a fluorescent baby- have you continued to like it after wearing it?

I have diamond studs with fluoro and I LOVE it! If I could exchange all my other diamonds for ones with Med or Strong Blue, I would in a heartbeat. I have 2 non-fluoro and 2 fluoro stones - one Med and one Strong Blue (all J in color - GIA 3X cut), and the ones with fluorescence definitely face up whiter. I would say the fluoro makes them face up at least 1 color grade, if not 2 color grades higher. I highly recommend it!

Thanks for your input Jill. I've noticed that people with fluoro love their diamond. I'm going to check this one out today and hopefully I'll have photos to share later :()

I just did a similar upgrade- from a .78 ct E with no fluorescence to a 1.2 H with (per the GIA cert) strong blue fluorescence, though jeweler thought it was more like medium.

I LOVE it! I've had it for several years. And like many others, I wish all my diamonds had it!

@Logan,
Wow, that is a really great upgrade. Does it seem huge to you coming from a bit under a carat to way over? Post pics!

I wish that I had known this before. Thanks to PS I don't consider it a bad thing but when I was looking in B&M stores I considered fluoro a flaw.

I have an I with strong blue and I absolutely love it. Faces up whiter than an I usually does and I love the blue flashes in the sun. also very cool to see it glowing under black lights on theme park rides, lol.

Here are some pics of the J fluoro diamond that I took yesterday when I visited WF to check her out in person. By the way, I saw no fluoro as the fluoro articles indicated under normal lighting. She wanted her own instagram so I added that as well. :loopy: Here are the pics:

@Onyx, you are so right. This diamond does not look like a J at all. I didn't even see much warmth from the sides. Although, I do think that having tan skin helps with color of the diamond as well.

I went from 1.11 F with no fluorescence to 2.59 F with medium blue fluorescence. No oiliness or milkiness. Some pics in different lighting. In the sun, to me the stone looks blue, like ocean water.

I know, that's why PS (diamond education site) is so amazing. I think I read somewhere that at one time fluorescence was highly desired and that diamonds that were "blue white" were more expensive than others. I'm going off of memory here though, so I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

That said, there are still a lot of folks in (what I call) the "real world" who aren't used to seeing diamonds glowing in black light, etc. I recall seeing a post here about a young man who'd bought his FI a diamond w/ SBF and they worked in a place where her ring was seen in black light quite often. While neither he nor she initially had an issue with it, a lot of her family and friends weren't reacting positively because none of their rings glowed.

So, while many of us have no qualms w/ fluorescence, we're aware of potential "interesting" reactions from people outside of this website ;) . Needless to say, I don't think it's a reason NOT to buy diamonds with fluorescence so if you like it than go for it.

p.s. You're going to LOVE the upgraded size!!

@llj:Wow! Your diamond is huge and gorgeous (drool) I don't see any transparency or clumsiness issues at all :) That is a great upgrade size btw

Roxy,
I have already had people tell me that it is a bad idea. It's already hard enough to find fluoro stones so maybe it's better that they are uneducated about the benefits LOL. I saw her in person and I really think that I won't regret it. So far my DSS has been limited to size. I thought the .83 would be fine but deep down inside I must be a size queen. :naughty:

Hey, I like the way you think!! Please share more pics when you get it so we can celebrate with you :wavey: .

Thanks Roxy! It may not be until January because we're using the flex plan and paying cash. I'll definitely add to SMTB and a link here. BTW I did choose the fluoro stone :).

Hello all!
I am so excited because my fluoro stone just shipped out from WF. I've been keeping myself occupied with Dreamer's first upgrade post since it's a similar size (see below). Here are the pics of my beauty! I'll post when she arrives :lickout:
Thank you to everyone that helped with this decision!

That looks awesome.

I love stones with fluor.

Once you get the stone, test it for phosphorescence.

This is an extremely cool phenomenon that isn't featured on the paper, and varies stone-to-stone.

All you have to do is expose the stone to blacklight in a very dark room for about a minute. Avert your eyes and turn off the blacklight. Look back at the stone - if it glows, it possesses phosphorescence!

Please report back, as many folks here are interested in fluorescence / phosphorescence.

Yay, can't wait to see it! I'm another fluoro lover, and discovered that my stone has phosphorescence recently, too. I remember going to the science museum when I was little and seeing the rocks change color under the UV lights, and now I have one of my own that does the same thing!

Can't wait, Can't wait, Can't wait!!! :appl:

Okay, here are the pics! My hubby made me wait all day and I finally got to open the box. Squee! Of course I will be posting the obligatory hand shot and baby shots. Hopefully I can get some fluoro shots tonight. I can see a little bit of body color from the side because it is a "J" strong fluoro. But overall, I'm very pleased with the color and surprised that a J faces up so white. I must be color blind. Yay!

Sorry that the pics are so big! And here are the baby pics. My LO looks really good with bling. I can't wait to buy her first pair of diamond studs LOL. I'd better get insurance though
