Hi Everyone! I really want to upgrade my 1.05 I SI OEC for something warmer and bigger. What is the best way to do this?

Is it better to consign the stone or sell it through diamond bistro or loupetroop? Where do you get the best price?
Should I get it graded through GIA?
Is there anything to this process that I should be aware of?
Is it unrealistic to think that the money I get from this stone would fully fund a larger, warmer stone? I really like the "M" diamonds that I have seen on the forum, set in rose gold.

I can't trade it in to anyone, I bought it on ebay in 2005.

Thanks for your help!

I would recommend reaching out to Grace of Jewels by Grace or Erica of Love Affair Diamonds. Both are trusted vendors who can consign diamonds and jewelry. Both companies also sell a lot of vintage or antique diamonds with a warm colour. Are you indeed looking for an old cut diamond?

Be prepared that mostly you will loose a large percentage when you resell stones and jewelry.
The difference between the purchase price of your new stone and the selling price of your current stone depend on the quality of each. As well as the size you want to upgrade to.

I upgraded from a 1 ct colourless princess to a 5+ carat OEC. My jeweller let me trade in the full value but there was still a large difference in price. I made use of a layaway plan and consigned additional jewelry via my jeweller.

Hopefully you will find your dreamstone!

Acinom has shared some good suggestions. I also want to point out that Adam of OWD took my MRB (not from him) as part of a trade up for an OEC he had so you can certainly call him and ask if he would consider doing that for you if there was an old cut in his inventory that you loved. You might be able to save more money that way vs consigning it. Good luck and I hope you find the old cut of your dreams!

I also recommend Grace as I recently commissioned my stone/ ring with her. Her rates were a lot more reasonable than even where I had originally purchased my stone, about 1/2 the rate. I also took the path of least resistance by not listing on LT or DB. Absolutely follow up with all the vendors & do some comparison shopping. Do you have a cert or documentation for your stone? Would be a good idea to get that together too. Like anything else that's for sale, you only need 1 buyer. :)) I know you're moving toward a warmer colour, but there are those of us that like the higher colours in an OEC so I think an I is a great mid-way colour. :wink2:

Good luck!
Judy
