Hi all,

My fiance and I are thinking of upgrading diamond size when we get married. Currently have a .84 HA round, E, VS1 and set in the HOF serenity platinum setting. Would like to upgrade to about 1.1 carat size. After purchasing the original diamond and her stud earrings I feel confident about going down in color and clarity. I was thinking of something like 1.1, G-H and eye clean SI. Should run 2-3 K more than I paid for the original. So here are my questions:

How exactly does the upgrade process work? Do i have a jeweler unset the diamond and then i mail it out or is it better to have the DI unset it?

Will unsetting the diamond and resetting the new diamond adversely affect the integrity of the prongs?

The original has alot of sentimental value because of the hard work (and help from this board) it took to find the best quality daimond for the price. It was quite a grueling experience. The .84 in the serenity is really perfect...but we both have seen a 1.1 in the serenity and it looks more perfect:)

Wow......Upgrading already??!!

You''d better check with DI to find out what their policy is. They may expect you to let them unset the stone to ensure there are no chips or blemishes that would reduce the stones value.

One thing caught my eye though and that''s the sentimentality of the stone. Are you sure you want to part with it? I know I''m suggesting you spend a lot more, but perhaps having that stone reset in a pendant would be a very special thing to do. I realize we are only temporary custodians of our pet rocks to begin with, but having sentiment tied to them is sweet.

Just a thought..........Good Luck

any info on how bad it is for the prongs to unset and then reset with a new diamond?

It''s not likely an issue to the prongs to reset a stone. Many many PS''ers have put new stones in their current settings.

I''d qualify that with....."as long as the new stone fits the setting."
