Hello All!!!

My Fiance recently bought me a solitaire RB 1 carat e-ring with the idea of upgrading. He bought it from jareds, we are now researching on the upgrade idea, and we found that diamonds are a lot cheaper when you buy them from an online vendor. We were planning on trading in this ring towards the price of the new diamond. Well my question is, if we get my current diamond appraised can we trade this diamond to an online vendor? or do they only accept trade ins that came from them?? thanks!!

No, they normally only take their own stones in trade. Some like James Allen may give you something for your stone if certified, but you''ll probably lose some money. If you are still within Jared''s return period, I would suggest returning it so you can buy from one of the reliable online vendors who allow full credit for your purchase price for future upgrades.

Thats what I thought, But we are well beyond our return period, this is not good. well thanks a bunch!!

You''re welcome! In that case, I would probably go forward with the idea of keeping this stone and make it into a pendant or something, and start over with the upgrade ring so that you don''t overpay twice. Many people do that, including me!!!

Even though you''ll pay more at Jared''s than online you''ve got a lot of money invested already. Jared''s does offer ideal cut diamonds so maybe see what they have to offer before giving up on the idea of upgrading with them. If you want to go for a cheaper diamond with an online vendor you can always have your 1 ct mounted as a pendant.

If you have invested enough with the first purchase that you don''t want to start over, Jared''s does carry AGS0 stones now, as Marcy alluded to. Stick with those, and you will have a better chance of getting a decent stone.

I agre with Marcy and Ellen, I would upgrade with Jared so as not to lose the money that you have already invested in your current stone.
