Hey everyone....
I have been lurking sometime and am quite impressed with the bling here as well as the knowledge. I have sent my ring to longtime jeweler out of state and just got a picture in. I have a few questions:
1. will a .53- .73 upgrade be noticeable to others (.53 was G color, good cut, SI-1 clarity and .73 is a G color, excellent cut and VS-2 clarity)
2. is it normal for the table to appear on an angle?
3. What do you refer to the colors as... fire, scintillation, arrows?

Thanks so much! I can''t wait to get it back, probably monday or so!

Hopefully you will see what I referring to in the pic... I may need to increase the size!
Thanks!

Sorry
I don''t know how to get the picture larger to show the colors I was referring to... if someone could help I can post it that way.
Thanks

I am no expert, but I could tell a difference in the diamonds I looked whenever I increased by >.2ct (ie a .5 to a .7). This was especially true when comparing a smaller lesser cut diamond to a larger and better cut diamond (as you are doing in this case)

Your upgrade looks lovely.
Yes, you’ll see a size difference especially going to an excellent cut diamond. I don’t know what you mean about the table appearing at an angle.
Scintillation is the small areas of light in a polished diamond that flash on and off as the diamond, observer or lighting moves.
Fire is the little flashes of color you’ll see from a diamond.
Arrows are patterns that are formed when the diamond is cut and faceted. An ideal cut diamond will have distinct and uniform arrows.

I can''t get the image to not look blurry when I edit it in paint, but it''s the pic on my desktop right now, and since it''s the size of my monitor and very clear, I can see the table clearly. The table is on an angle.... it''s not a square in the position I would have thought it should be. It''s almost positioned more in a diamond position with the corners being North, South, East and West instead of NW, NE, SW, SE... if that makes sense. I wasn''t sure if I should be concerned about the position.....

Thanks for the kind words and answers. The photo I have of it really shows 2 different shades or blue and yellow! I can''t wait to have it back and get better pics... but better yet wear it!!!! Thanks again!

Is the whole stone set on an angle making the table appear to be tilted? This in an interesting question, maybe some ''experts'' can chime in. What kind of grade does it have for symmetry? Surely if it''s graded excellent for symmetry the table couldn''t be off could it?

Yes, a 0.5 ct stone upgrade to 0.75 ish will be noticeable. A 1/2 ct stone will measure around 5 mm and a 3/4 stone will measure close to 5.8 mm, so it's a difference of almost a full millimeter.

WRT the table, the picture is much too tiny for me to make out anything about the table.

As for brilliance, fire, scintillation, here's a good tutorial: http://diamonds.pricescope.com/brill.asp
Some history and explaination on H&A pattern: http://diamonds.pricescope.com/hna.asp

Not all ideal stones will have H&A pattern.
And not all H&A stones are ideal cut.

Do you mind posting the stats of the stone? Table, depth, pavilion and crown angles, girdle, etc.

Yes, you will definitely notice a good difference between sizes!

I can't see the table on the pic clearly, but it is probably fine.

Is this the upgraded diamond in the pic, one you intend to keep, or the old diamond?

That''s a great point.... the whole stone may be set on on angle in the prongs....
I will have to take better pics and post again. I don''t have more stats right now, but when I do I will definately look at the symmetry. Thanks!

Thanks for the tutorials. Those were definately helpful. I always loved diamonds, gems, all things sparkling, but didn''t know JACK about them! What a whole new world that has opened up to me! Thanks everyone!
I don''t have the stats yet.... since I was more naive I didn''t pay attention to the other stats at all... only the 4 Cs. I will get my cert soon too and have to look at it more closely... post them and see what you all think!!! I will also take a better pic and post that once it''s here too.... I can''t seem to get the picture to be larger without making it completing blurry.
Thanks again for the help!

This is the upgraded diamond, the one I will be keeping. I wish I had a pic that I could post of the last diamond. Unfortunately it''s only in hard copies.....

The stats info I asked for actually makes up the most important C: Cut but many people don''t really know how to judge the cut and it''s the least talked about C unless you are a well informed consumer.

So you have definitely decided you are keeping this diamond then? No plans to look for more, this is it now and you are commited to this stone?

UGG... I was so uninformed at the time, and thought I was more educated!!!.... I just know it''s excellent cut and didn''t pay any more attention.

At least until the next ugrade

It''s paid for, mounted and being sent back to me.... hopefully will have it tomorrow.
You are making me a little nervous about my purchase.... do you think I need to be reconsidering it more for some reason?

We were in CA (where we were from and had a jeweler for years there) and stopped in "just to look". Of course, I fell in love with that diamond and it was within our budget right now. We left though without buying it because we really weren''t going to upgrade again just yet for a few reasons. The entire ride back, I couldn''t stop thinking about it and we talked about doing it. I got home, called the jeweler and asked if it was still there.... sent my ring, etc (also, they have the upgrade/trade in policy since I got the last diamond there, they give me full credit towards the next one)
I am nervous about DSS, it happened with all my upgrades so far (started with itty bitty .15 when we were dirt poor
6.gif
and then went to .32, to .53 to this .73) but I also know that I will continue to upgrade until I can get over 1.5 carat.... and then who knows

That is what I am trying to avoid is making you nervous, about the cut quality, I am sure it is fine and a beautiful diamond!!!!! That is why I was asking if the deal was done, as personally I was concerned that going into the cut quality now would make you question your choice, so that was why I was trying to find out if you had fallen in love with this diamond and actually seen it, which is the very most important thing.

All that remains now, is to ask you for some pics of your ring when you get it!!

Agreed, bridge under the water and can''t do diddly squat about it (unless you''re still within the return/exchange period

and hugs everyone! I know that my gut and my heart fell for the diamond I picked.... I think I just got nervous now that I know more.... The increase in education and knowledge will still serve me well next go around

Cristy, that is how it should be!! We go by numbers when buying online, as we can't actually see the diamonds, so we need every bit of info at our disposal to be able to make an informed choice. But nothing can take the place of your own eyes and heart, after all, those are the most important things when buying a diamond! Congrats on your purchase of what I am sure, is a gorgeous rock!!!!!!!!!!
