Oh boy, I''ve been toying with the idea of upgrading my Signed Pieces wedding band for over a year now and still haven''t made up my mind.

What I currently have:
Size 4.5, 7 stone band of 7 pointers in PT and 18kt YG.

Why am I thinking of changing it? Well, right now, the stones span the exact width of my finger but sometimes, a slight twist, and you''ll see the band. It bothers me somewhat, not a whole lot but it still happens. It doesn''t twist enough to see the yellow gold band but darn it, I want to see the diamonds!

I don''t think I want an eternity ring for several reasons:
1. Can''t size it
2. Worry about banging the underside of the ring and damaging the diamonds
3. Don''t want to accumulate gunk on the diamonds on the underside of my hand
4. COST

Should I get:
1. G-H/VS, 11 stone band of 7 pointers in 18kt WG = $ 985
2. F-G/VVS, 11 stone band of 7 pointers in 18kt WG = $ 1,268
3. F-G/VVS, 11 stone band of 7 pointers in 18kt PT = $ 1,418

It appears that #1 is a better buy since I doubt anyone can see the difference between F-G/G-H and VVS/VS in such small melees. I''m also concerned about wearing a Platinum band with my e-ring which is WG (the scratching and wearing out factor), so should I stick with WG?

Will going with 11 stones versus 7 stones help me avoid seeing the plain band most of the time?
How comfortable is the band with the diamonds touching the sides of the other two fingers?

If you are really bothered by seeing the band, then I''d suggest going 3/4 eternity instead.

Still gives the option for sizing, but band can move a bit either way without exposing the metal to your view.

Chrono, I too have a 4.5 size finger. My SP ring is 9 stones with 4 pointers. I turned it half way around to see what it would feel like. Actually it''s quite comfortable. I think 7 pointers going 3/4 around would be fine. Hope that''s some help.

I just talked to Isaac at SP and their policy for trade-ins to spend twice as much to upgrade. It turned out that I have the 7 stone 6 pointers shared prong band and the 11 stone 6 pointer upgrade I was thinking of is too cheap to qualify for the trade in!

So now I am looking into the 3/4 eternity. I hope it will be comfortable to wear as I like to wear the band by itself most of the time.

Any one care to chime in on their experience with their 3/4 eternity band? I''ve also been reading up on past posts.

That''s good to know - didn''t realize that was a requirement of theirs.

Thanks for the info.

Chrono,

WOuld you mind posting a pic of your 7 pointer band with your ering? Myself and another were asking to see any 7 pointer 1/2, 1/3 eternity band.

Thanks!!!

Chrono- let me know how the upgrading process with SP goes. I''m also thinking of upgrading my eternity ring in the future from an all diamond band to a diamond and sapphire band. I guess they need to see the traded-in ring first before they''ll let you upgrade? They also told me that they could outright buy the ring but I''m not sure that would be a better value than just trading in.

Zhuzhu,
Sorry but I don''t have a digicam. My cellphone has a camera but I don''t have the right tools to download the pictures. I''m really sorry.

LG,
I''ll keep you posted on how this upgrade goes.

Okay, more questions:
1. Is a 1/2 eternity more comfortable to wear than a 3/4 eternity band? This is for 6 pointer or 7 pointer stones.
2. Is PT really safer for shared prong than 18kt WG? I am not a fan of the heft of platinum plus my other rings are all white/yellow gold. Should I go for a PT head with WG band combination?
3. This is going to be a stand alone band, size 4.5 Can I go larger than 7 pointers without too much blingage? I mean, I want a nice balance of sparkle but nothing shouting "Look at me".
