Hi - just wanted to get people's opinion on how much bigger I would have to go up in carat size in order to see a difference? My first diamond was a GIA 1.36 carat, G-SI2, 7.2 x 7.24 x 4.35 round. I eventually upgraded to a GIA 1.81 carat, G-SI2, 7.79 x 7.75 x 4.8 round diamond. That was a .45 carat upgrade and I could see the difference in face up presentation; both diamonds were well cut. If I went up again another .40 - .50 carat weight with similar stats (cut, symmetry, etc.), would I see a big enough difference face up? If not, how much more would I need to increase in carat weight to see a difference? I realize that this is subjective, but I wanted to get people's general opinion. Thanks!

I need at least 10% increase in surface area to see the difference. There's a great site that lets you play with dimensions and how different sizes look on the finger. Check it out http://www.diamdb.com/

Most people can tell the difference of 0.5 mm and upwards.

Thanks for the suggested website! It's very helpful.

side by side? 0.3mm in diameter.

I'd shoot for a 2.1-2.2 ct stone at a minimum to really see the upgrade. You'll go from 7.8 mm diameter to about 8.2-8.3, which is a nice size jump.

Yes, I agree. At least an upgrade to a 2.2 carat to see a visible difference.
