Richard got my stone and setting today (sigh of relief).

I quote:

"While my jeweler will be able to set the gem, he will not be able to
repair the other jewelers less than desirable work on the prongs and
basket. Even if he replaces the prongs with new ones, there will be a
noticeable seam from where the prong ends and the basket begins; it
would be more noticeable than the current abrasions found on the metal.
While he can make the beads a bit smaller and polish it up a bit, he
would not be able to make the prongs look like a perfect handmade
piece. Also the interior of the basket is unpolished and uneven. While
he can buff that inner area, he cant smooth out all of the
indentations, bumps and scratches found inside for two reasons; a) the
outer filigree wall design dictates to a certain extent what the inner
area will be shaped like and b) it won''t significantly help the overall
aesthetic of the piece."

Sounds good enough to me. I think when I have money maybe I will get the setting re-built by someone by hand, but who knows.

FYI, I posted that quote bc I felt it would be clearer than my re-done summary, not because I have any complaints at all.

I want my ring back!!!!! OK, only a bit longer.

glad to hear the good news
he did a really good job explaining his evaluation!

(sometimes it is REALLY hard to understand what is being said when a ring is being described.)

hopefully, it won''t be long now!

yeah he''s good at that. He also made fun of me for putting the stone in my "Itty Bitty Bhudda" box and then taping it within an inch of its life...

lol. He probably needed the jaws of life to extricate that thing from the box!

I''m glad you got a thorough, authoritative evaluation. Good luck with the ring!
