OK, so I have to give major credit to my FI (can I squeal a little over that?) who usually never manages to surprise me, but completely pulled one over on me this time! He told me he was looking at a ring he liked when he was home a couple of weeks ago, but he wouldn''t be able to go get it until he came home again in another week and a half for his spring break. So I figured the proposal was AT LEAST 2 weeks away!
So yesterday was our 4 year anniversary. Originally I was planning to go visit him for a couple days and we were going to go out to a really nice dinner to celebrate, but I had some car trouble last week and was hesitant to drive far, so we decided to put the visit off and celebrate when he came home next. He told me he was really busy with school work all day, so imagine my surprise when he showed up at my house last night! His mom had driven 3 hours to go pick him up and bring him back here (because he doesn''t have or need a car at school right now), just to have to turn around and take him back this morning. I was shocked! He asked me if I wanted to go out for milk shakes or something, but I wasn''t hungry at all because I had just gotten back from dinner with my parents some 15 minutes earlier. But of course I agreed we could go out somewhere anyway, and grabbed my shoes and jacket while he was downstairs, apparently filling my parents in on his plan. I was a little suspicious as I thought I noticed him fiddling in his coat pocket occasionally, but I kept trying to talk myself out of it, thinking, no surely he isn''t going to propose tonight! We went out to a coffeeshop and hung out there for a while and then decided we would go back to my place and watch a movie. I still couldn''t believe he''d come all the way home for one night just for that, but if he did, I thought it was incredibly sweet that he wanted to be together for our anniversary so much. Then when we got back to my place, he insisted on opening the car door for me, and as I got out, he got down on one knee and asked! I don''t think I remember anything he actually said because I was so surprised, and I couldn''t even see the ring because it was completely dark out, but it didn''t matter, I was so happy! No date set yet, but we are looking at probably December or January.
The ring is gorgeous! We had talked about it and looked together a little bit but he was insistent that we wanted to pick it out on his own and I think he did a fantastic job. It''s a princess cut solitaire, 0.86 E VS2, ring size 4 (but may need to be sized down to a 3.5, it''s pretty loose). Not huge by PS standards, but it looks perfect on my tiny little fingers (never knew I would be so thankful for small hands until I started thinking about erings!) I think FI must be super color sensitive because I told him he could go down to a H or I, but he insisted he could see a lot of difference and really wanted colorless. No complaints here, it looks fantastic to me! I will definitely post pictures later, but sadly it is pretty cloudy out right now and I can''t get enough light to take a picture without a flash, sigh...
So for now I''m off to go buy some bride magazines and flash the new shiny at everyone in the grocery store! I''m so excited I can finally start some really planning and not look like a crazy person!
