Unusual reflection ring

We bought this at a garage sale because it was so unusual. It is definitely older, but looks a bit mass-produced. The unusual thing is the clear glass ball - it is clear when viewed from most angles, but when viewed straight on, it becomes orange/green and you can see yourself (you can see me holding the camera in one of the pics). We are interested in the history of this.

Can you please post the underside of the ring? It could be that the setting is foil backed, so that when viewed from the top, it shows the colour of the foil backing, yet from the side view, it is clear.

This is a pretty common foil back in very inexpensive jewelry. This is not an antique.
