Unsure about diamond bracelet keep, return, go custom??

I bought an evil eye bracelet from Ebay for fun since I've been into the Sydney Evans ones, but couldn't figure out the diamond quality on those even after e-mailing their customer service.

So on a whim I got this.

Looks nice in person, sparkley. But I'm just not sure. I'm going to ask a jeweler downtown to look at it tomorrow, hopefully they'll be ok with giving me at least something of an opinion as to whether it is close to as described or not. I have a feeling the diamonds aren't VS after checking them with my loupe, but I'm not sure.

Should I keep it? Would having something custom made like this be nuts? Any idea of the cost? or who to go to??

If you like it keep it.

If you like the style but you think they didn't do a great job, return it and try again with a different vendor.

If you love the style but you don't like the quality and they were your best bet and no other vendor would do better, go custom.

If you tried it and don't want it or wonder what you ever saw in it, return it.

No one should tell you what jewelry you should wear, or what you should like. Hope you're happy with your new bling!

I agree with Tristan's scenarios, but I wanted to say thanks for posting this. I've seen a lot of really hokie "evil eye" jewelry but this looks much nicer. It prompted me to Google some evil eye rings and while most look like things that come out of a gumball machine, there are a few that are really well done w/ sapphires and diamonds. My dad was always big into that stuff with me while I was growing up, and I've had a lot of negative stuff in my life lately. Maybe this would be a good excuse to get some bling

IMHO this is the epitome of a "fashion" piece. I don't see the point of having something like it custom made ... especially if it seems okay to you as is. Can you foresee passing something like this down to your kids/grandkids? If not: enjoy it for what it is & expect that you'll actually be fine if it loses a stone or something in a year or two ... or is *gasp* TREATED sapphires. Oh, ha, not even sapphires at all!

We bought a "fashion" rose gold pave starfish from a tiny jewelry shop in Mykonos stuffed to the gills w/ this kind of mass produced gimmicky, trendy kind of stuff. I don't know how "high quality" it is but I wore it all day every day for a year and didn't lose a stone. I'd still be wearing it now if I didn't get a DBY (which is my new daily wearer for a bit.)

HOWEVER: if you don't like it. Or it feels cheap or whatever to you return & keep looking around. There's TONS of this kinda stuff out there. NO NEED to painstakingly recreate at 4x the cost.

I wouldn't go custom unless you want it for more than an occasional piece and you can get close to the same pricing-- no more than double. If it's a statement piece or something you wear everyday, I can understand wanting it to be as nice as possible. But for a piece you wear occasionally, I wouldn't bother. Just enjoy it for what it is.

The piece might have significance to the owner.
An item doesn't have to be passed down to be custom made.
A custom made item isn't immune to losing a stone.
There may be a ton of stuff out there that you would class as similar, but none of it might match the OP's feeling for exactly what was sought.
There is never a NEED for jewelry. A marriage doesn't Need an E-ring either. It just needs love and devotion between two people. And occasionally a religious person.

Guess what I'm saying is: if it isn't important to the owner/wearer, the sentiments shared makes complete sense. However, imagine if this was something the OP really really wanted (not saying it is). Disparaging sentiments about the nature of the item doesn't really help?

Don't let others tell you how important it is to enjoy the things that you enjoy.

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate all of your comments! I don't like to talk about my purchases with my friends because it just seems a little obnoxious sometimes so its great to have a sounding board for ideas. While it is a fashion piece I also love evil eyes in party because I'm 1/2 middle eastern. I think I had a "DUH" momement when I thought about how sentimental the piece would be! So while I love the ebay piece I'm going to at least get some quotes for a custom piece just to see.

I also really like this style. I'm considering maybe even turquoise for a middle stone & a smaller pave around the iris part. Turquoise is something my mom and grandmother always wore. Then again a sapphire would look great too.

Oh and this has me thinking about getting a thin 18k bracelet to wear some of my charms on --- has anyone done that? I have all these cute, sometimes handmade, charms and I never wear them. Seems a shame....
