Does anyone have any advice on where to purchase an unlocked quad band GSM phone. We're with Verizon so we need to purchase a cheap but reliable cell phone for travel in Europe. Have looked at Telestial, Mobal, CelloMobile and a few others. Seeking words of wisdom.
Hello Matata, I went to europe 2 years ago and I got a rental phone from verizon, it was pretty reasonable, I can't remember how much but worth giving them a call, they shipped it to my house with the charger and everything and a prepaid shipping box to send it back, easy peasy.
How about the Samsung Galaxy Nexus (which is also known as the Google Nexus)? I bought it for similar reasons (travel and switching of SIM cards) and so far I am really liking the phone.
We have Verizon as well, and DH has rented international phones from Verizon. Our daughter did a study abroad for several months a couple of years ago, and she purchased a British cell phone when in Europe. Now that she is home DH sometimes uses that phone when he is over there. He also owns a Global phone from Verizon, and he calls Verizon and activates the international calling feature (which is rather pricey) and cancels it immediately upon returning home. The advantage here is that he has the same phone number on travel as when at home.
In your case, I would purchase a cell phone during your next trip abroad. You can add more minutes as needed, and you do not need to purchase a monthly calling plan.
