I am pretty new to this forum but had used it as a valuable research tool while purchasing a sapphire engagement ring for my fiance.
I just wanted to put in a good word for Ed Bristol at Wild Fish Gems. We found him online and asked him to try and find us an unheated blue sapphire. Despite our lack of knowledge on the subject, Ed helped us determine exactly what kind of stone we wanted and what parameters to look for. Ed went and searched and found a stone that fit our requirements (and even had one cut to match what we were looking for). We were a bit nervous sending a fairly large sum of money by wire transfer to an online vendor but Ed walked us through this process painlessly and shipped the stone as soon as he received payment.
We had a custom setting made at a local jewelry store (Longs in Burlington MA, they were also a pleasure to deal with). Here are some pictures.
