Understanding resetting.....

My setting will be here Tues, and it originally held a 6mm stone. My stone is set in a 4 prong solitaire, 5mm. The listing said that the head of the setting needed repaired/replaced. The sidestones are single cuts.....
So in the theories of my brain, if the head needed repaired/placed, can the head of my current ring go in it? Like Im almost thinking leave my stone in the head its in, leaving it attached to some of the gold of the band. Then use the straight bar of gold/the head of my current ring to be attached into the new setting so it almost looks like its floating in the setting if that makes sense.

Is my thinking way off?

It is best to find a competent jeweler and let them guide you in this case. Visit a few shops, and work with a jewler that has a bench in house (i.e., they have a shop to work on the rings in their store).

I am forever thinking! The creative side of me is always wondering how things work. Then I see so many yummy heads on stuller....do you know of any other sites to look at heads for rings?
