The fanciest nail salon I''ve ever been to (it was the spa at the Greenbriar) had a lovely perk: as they did my nails, they cleaned my rings! They just dropped them in this bizarre hourglass contraption filled with purple liquid, inverted it, and handed them back to me at the end of the session, gorgeous and sparkling clean.

I sort of forgot about it until I stumbled across what I *think* is it on Amazon the other day, so I ordered it - here there be hourglass.

The thing is, now that I have it, I can''t figure out how to use it! I thought there would be a mesh filter or something at the throat of the hourglass, but there''s nada, and the liquid just pours back and forth from half to half freely. The instructions are useless, too - they tell me to fill it with water, add solution, and remove my jewelry after a while, and contain some tweezers that are way too big to fit past the throat to, you know, WHERE MY JEWELRY IS.

Did I get a dud kit, or is there a trick to this that I''m missing? ''Cause if I just spent $25 on what amounts to a really fancy container for an ammonia-based cleaner, oooooooooooooooooooooooo, there is going to be a nasty review a-coming.

Maybe the jewelry is cleaned because of the liquid that streams on it? I would be concerned about the diamonds crashing into each other when you tip the bottle over.

Maybe it just takes a few times to get the hang of it?

If they do it all day long I bet it''s totally routine by now!

Looked at the product - I think it''s just an expensive way of presenting your typical jewellery soaking cleaner.

It looks fancy to make spa clients happy, but I doubt it''s considerably different than a bowl of windex - sorry!

Bah, that''s what I was afraid of.

My new pendant is a thing of beauty, but my jeweler left a fairly closed back on the bezel, and it''s gunky in places I can''t reach with even the smallest of brushes, but CAN see through the table. HORRORS! I''ve ordered a jewel-jet, too, so I''ll just cross my fingers and hope for the best.

Well, it looks cute. Maybe you can put some sand in it and set it on the table?
