Hi Everyone. A quick preface to attest that Pricescope is great. The resources here brought me up to speed, helped me find a top quality loose diamond at a fair price, and find a custom ring maker who did a fabulous job with the setting. Proposal went well, and now I’m at last step, how to keep the ring/diamond clean.

I’ve concluded the combo of an ultrasonic cleaner and steamer are the way to go. Once a month we’ll ultrasonic, then steam it. I’ll get the jewel jet, and I’m looking at a Gemoro 1.5 PTSS Ultrasonic. This appears to be the model that goes to higher quality parts. The basket is sold separately and is a fine wire mesh basket.

My question is, is a wire mesh basket the way to go? Can my fiancée just drop the ring into the basket without worries? I know with a platinum ring one has to be careful about having it bump into other metals for fear of scratching etc. I was wondering if there is any concern of the ultrasonic cleaning process actually abrading it via the mesh basket? Are there certain types of mesh baskets that are better than others? I am guessing this is a non-issue, but just wondered if a plastic basket is preferable, or if one should hang the ring into the solution from a hook or something?

As background, the ring is a platinum solitaire. No pave or side stones.

If scratching is a concern, you might opt for a smoother type basket than a mesh one. Drilled plate is a smoother surface and often used with US cleaners. I don''t believe it is going tobe a problem wither way since wearing a ring is the main cause of scratches and dings. The US basket will not change anything in a visible way.
