I did a search regarding clouds on PS and saw that Gary had said that even in VS2''s they can cause a loss of brilliance whicn totally scared me because it sounded pretty common.

I''m asking because i''m about to look at a 2.52carat stone where all i see are scattered clouds with a comment that says additional clouds not shown on the gia cert.

Should this honestly be a concern?

Clouds in a VS2 shouldn't be a problem as far as I am aware, if they are the grade making inclusion in an SI then it may be, but not in VS to the best of my knowledge. Additional clouds not shown under comments are just mentioned for the sake of completeness, as to plot them would make the clarity map look messy and offputting. Maybe one of the other experts can clarify as I don't think Garry is around at the moment? The diamond looks great Elle!

I''ve seen those threads, and I''ve also seen some where he acted like it wasn''t a big deal, which left many of us rather confused.

Just have the vendor eyeball it, but I imagine it''s just fine.

Thanks for responding Lorelei and Ellen :)

And yea, Garys comments left me totally confused and scratching my head. There was one thread where he mentioned the issue in SI2''s, then another in VS2''s so it got me wondering.

Yep. I always go by him and other experts saying that if a cloud is the grade setting inclusion in an SI clarity, that you need to proceed with caution in case it has a negative effect on the diamond, but I don't know with an unknown VS diamond. The vendor who has this diamond should be able to settle the question hopefully.

Lorelei-

For the last few months I''ve been trying to soak up everything i can on this board. There''s a ton of helpful info. BUT, the cloud issue doesn''t seem one that''s been resolved. In all the posts I''ve read regarding clouds, it looks like it''s Gary''s observation. I haven''t seen any other experts elaborate on the issue.

The stone is currently on it''s way to David Wolf of Just Appraisers in NY. Have an appointment with him today at 12:30.

Did a search on him as well and saw issues about his color grading.. (strictness of it) oh boy.. i''m in for a fun filled afternoon
