I''ve been feeling I''m fighting a bug for a few weeks now. Yesterday afternoon it got worse and I knew I was definitely getting sick. I spent a restless night and I''m totally stopped up, even with my prescription stuff. I hate head colds because they always end up in my chest and just make me so ill, and it takes weeks to get over. I guess I should be glad I''m getting it now and not over Christmas.

Off I go to put my head over a steam pot and drink some Herba Tussin tea.

Anyone got any other tried and true methods of warding off a cold and making it better? BTW, I hate those zink tablets (Coldeze?) yuck! I don''t think they help me, either. I''d rather eat a raw union and a bunch of garlic (although my husband would probably prefer the zinc tablets, LOL).

Ugh! I am in the same boat. Yesterday was the worst day, today a bit better. I just wonder if its the allergy season, or if I really did catch a bug. DH was sick Monday and Tuesday, and now I am sick. I have just been taking OTC meds, and they have just been making me drousy. A friend told me to order a shot of wheatgerm, and that would help. I am unsure of that idea

I feel your pain, as I am getting over a cold myself. It really stinks, especially since my BF and I are going away for the weekend. I am taking Sudafed''s 12 hour sinus medicine, which seems to be working. You get 20 pills and have to ask for it at the pharmacy counter.

I have been taking cold-eeze, which may have helped too, though they do not taste great.

I''m in the same boat.

I have my first cold in years. My daughter gave it to me who caught in daycare after being there only 4 days.

My poor baby is starting to get better but man she was in bad shape, my cold is not too bad. I have been taking my grapefruit seed extract pills. Get well soon

I am also just getting over a cold. I have found that the Coldeze and Airborne tend to work best BEFORE getting sick. Besides OTC stuff for relief I have honestly found that sleeping as much as possible is the best way for me to get over being sick. When I try to push past it and keep with my daily routine, the virus lasts much longer. For example, I got sick Sunday so stayed in bed ALL day. Monday I was forced to go to work and school, but got home that night and slept for 12 hours! (8-8). Tuesday I was already feeling better and then again Tuesday night I was able to sleep for at least 10 hours. Same thing last night and I already feel about 75% better. Considering I only had 2 really crappy days, I''d say that''s pretty good.

Oh no, lots of you have head colds! I am so sorry; hubby just had the flu or something. Crazy stuff is going around!!! Thank goodness I didn''t get sick; he kept leaving dirty tissues everywhere

Uuuuuuuuuh! Looks like I''m in good company! There is definitely some junk going around. I took some nasal decongestent -- not the psuedo-ephedrine type because we don''t have any and I didn''t want to go out. It seems to be helping, but I''m clear on one side and stopped up on the other. The side that''s clear is really raw feeling and it hurts to breathe through my nose. Dang! I hate having a cold! It''s just so inconvenient and it makes me feel so lethargic. I have a lot of stuff to do, too, and I''ve been spending a lot of time doing stuff I was not planning to do, so things are piling up. Thank goodness tomorrow''s Friday and we have a long weekend.

Hope everyone else feels better and gets a good night''s sleep!

I hate thos nasty zinc tablets too. I''m never successful in fighting off bugs, so I''ve got no good advice. Just sympathy. Sorry your feeling so poorly Lumpkin. That sucks.

*crosses fingers in hopes this thread is not contagious* LOL! I haven''t had a head cold in .... forever! (knock wood). DH gets one about every month in the fall/winter/spring, but he''s a heavy smoker and I think his immune system is compromised. Anyway, even with all the secondhand smoke, I manage to avoid most of the bugs that go around here, I don''t really know how, though. I smoked until this past February, but even when I smoked I rarely got colds. I have an alcoholic beverage (sometimes two, ok sometimes more on weekends) maybe every other night, and I eat a ton of fresh fruits/vegetables.

The last memorable cold I had was the week before I got married (4 years ago), and my doc gave me a z-pack, but obviously you shouldn''t get antibiotics for random colds...after that I think it was about two years ago that I got another semi-bad one and I took Dayquil and Sudafed to get through work and rested a lot when I came home and drank a LOT of water. Seemed to help it through my system pretty quickly, I never had to call in sick or anything...

Feel better soon, Lumpkin!
