My mom and I went gown shopping for the FIRST time last night! It was so fun. Anyway, here are a few contenders. What do you think?

This is "the Halter dress"

Tight tank...this one is discontinued, and I need one size up, so if I choose this one, I may have to search ebay...

simple A-line

the poofy down

I really like the look of the halter neck on you however I''m still not 100% sure on any of them. You have a fab figure and none of those dresses show it off properly.

and the lacey one...its clearly too big, but you get the idea...

oh, and all the gowns will be in HWITE

THANKS!

Yeah, I am not100% sold yet eitehr,. I really like mermaid style gowns...I think the halter is closest to a mermaid style...

Of course, this is after one night of shopping, so, there is lots more to try on :)

Number one is my favorite, but I think you could probably do better. I think the tank or halter style neckline shows off your figure much more the straight across strapless. I like the shape of the "poufy down" one as you called it, but I''m not in love with pickups. I think a dress that is more of an a-line than the straight down shape will really show off your curves and tiny waist!

The a-line is my favorite.

Mintve, you are in Atlanta, right? Me, too! Anyway, here is where I recommend going shopping, and I have visited these shops personally...

Formally Yours--jam packed with dresses. Almost too many dresses! They are very nice, very helpful. Wish I could have bought here, but they didn''t carry the line I eventually bought from.
LaRaine''s--lovely pieces, lots of Pronovias, if I remember correctly.
Kelly''s Closet--beautiful, different dresses. Also very helpful.
Demetrios--only carries their dresses, and tell your Mom to bring a magazine. Mine didn''t come in the fitting room with me, and it took a lot longer here then anywhere else to get me into the dresses. Not sure why, could have just been my consultant.
PoB/Melissa Sweet--more expensive then the previous shops, but gorgeous! Very individual attention. Gorgeous accessories, too.
Wedding Angels--Great service here. My consultant really wanted to find me a dress I loved, but I just didn''t really love anything they had. If I remember correctly, they had a lot of mermaid dresses.
Bride Beautiful--hit or miss. If you go, request Gail as your consultant, she is fantastic. Its another store where the consultant can make or break your experience. All the dresses are on some sort of forms, makes it easier to see what you are getting.

As for what you have shown us in the pictures, while they are all lovely, but I think bee is right--your figure is fab, and you should find a dress that showcases it!

Hope this helps some!

Thanks Amandine! That is great info! I was starting to think of where else to go. are any of those places more affordable than the others? I don''t have a huge dress budget...

THANKS!

Probably Formally Yours is the most affordable. If you purchase on your first visit, they knock a percentage that I cannot remember off.

Bride Beautiful, Demetrios, and Wedding Angels are probably pretty similiar. Wedding Angels had an Anjolique trunk show when I was there, and that can make it less expensive, too. None were absurdly expensive.

I was trying to stay under $1000, if that helps. I knew Priscilla/Melissa Sweet was out of my price range, but just wanted to try them on. I think I may still go to Bridals by Lori, when else can I try on $5k dresses?

No offense to anyone...but I can''t stand David''s, and you can find dresses priced similiarly, but of much better quality at these shops. You may have seen in previous posts that I worked at a shop (not one of the ones listed), and I had lots of s in tears after some incident or other with Davids. Now, I know this was in the early 2000s, so their practices may have changed. I just want you to know that there are better made options out there!

And again, no offense meant to anyone with a Davids dress, it was just my personal experience.

I like the a line, but I adore the lace on the high tank.

If I had to choose from these alone, I would choose #1.

What size do you need in the tight tank? I believe I have the same Oleg Cassini in my vast arsenal of ebay finds! Sadly, though, it doesn''t contain my ''girls''!

THe one that was too tight was a 12, so I am guessing a 14.

How fun to have an arsenal to ebay finds!!!

I'm of no use to you, then, sorry! I have seen several of those on ebay, though, and usually very reasonably priced. I'll keep my eye out for you.

My friend wore a beautiful 2-piece Oleg Cassini at her wedding about a year and a half ago that I think would look lovely on your figure. I'll see if I can find it on their website.

ETA: Here it is in a size 6, but you get the gist!

Hi mintve! Congrats on your engagement and happy dress shopping! So far I don''t see "the dress" if you know what I mean. I think the ones you tried on are great to start with, but I''d say keep looking around! I definitely like the style of number 1 the most!

Out of those dresses, I like #1 the best. However, I think you should definately keep shopping. I think you (and the "girls") would look smashing in a strapless a-line or slim a-line gown with a subtle sweetheart neckline.

Here are a couple Maggie Sottero dresses I wish that I would have tried on! Hope it helps give you an idea! Good luck finding THE dress!

Thanks Laura. I do think "the girls" will look nice in a sweatheart neckline. They care deceptively large. In everyday clothers, they look just average, but when I try on dresses or button-up tops, etc they are billowing over!!

I really like the Anastasia dress!! so pretty!

Hm. Yeah, I agree with Bee too. None of those dresses is really doing anything for you, and they look a little cheaply cut. Plus, after Haven's experience, I'd think twice about that shop. Though of those, I like the first one best.

I'd definitely keep looking. If you put some effort into it, you can get a really classy beautiful dress on a very tight budget. My Nicole Miller was less than $300.
