Is there a reason you are going for VVS and D (high) color?

The first one has no pic. We need crown height considering the table and depth, and I didn''t really look at anything beyond that. The second is an EC not an asscher like the first the center looks dark and I didn''t look at anything but the pic really.

http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/4287/ I like this one better than those even though this one isn''t my ideal, personally (in terms of windmills and so forth, but its nice). G is still very white and vs2 as long as eyeclean is just great to maximize budget and size.

For the color, no, I was looking for the best one. Is D too much?

I like that ascher that you posted and I''ve actually had that on my radar. It is very nice.

I''m considering emeralds and aschers (and radiants). Which is why I listed the two.

They are very different looks (especially the radiants). Do you know what she wants. Has she tried any of them one her hand?

Better is in the eye of the beholder. Some people wans high color and clarity and will sacrifice all else for it. Some people (many of the PSers) want the best cut quality and will sacrifice in other areas to get that. Some people are only interested in size.

Do you know which she is?

Quick run down of the shapes.

Emerald cuts face up pretty well for a square and step cut. You can get a nice one with a depth in the mid sixties and get nice spread. But like any step cut you generally have to stay at or above vs2 clarity.

Asscher face up small. A one carat asscher is going to face up like a .80 ideal cut round. (princesses face up small too). Plus because of the patterns the stones draw your eyes inward making it look even smaller. I have an asscher. Like ECs they are a step cut so you generally need to stay above or at vs2 to get eyeclean.

Radiants have a shattered ice appearance that is the antithesis of step cuts. Someone who loves the clear simplicity of the facets on a step cuts and wants a step cut is not going to be happy with a radiant as a general rule. But for someone who loves radiants... they rock. And you can get an SI radiant that is eye clean with relative ease which saves you money and lets you go a little bigger.

If she just wants a square or a rectangle and doesn't want a princesses (they face yo small too, a well cut princess will have a depth in the 70s)... there are a few other cuts to consider as well. Chief among them cushions.

Basically... just from this one post my impression is that you haven't done a lot of reading on diamonds (goodoldgold has a great diamond tutorial please read it... all of it). Haven't done too many searches on the older threads here on asschers and emerald cuts (there are 100s of great threads) to get really informed about these cuts. Don't know exactly what she wants... or what you want. And are kinda flying by the seat of your pants.

This is an engagement ring. The symbol of your commitment to your lady that she will be wearing the whole of your lives together. Slow down, take some time and get really educated. You are spending a lot of money and personally, I'd want to make sure I was getting the best deal, the best diamond, and the closest to her expectations as possible.

We are here to help you. But there are a lot of resources for you to help yourself. And we can help you best once you've helped yourself to a little more research.

If you are in a rush though... we can sub our knowledge for you in a lot of areas. BUT NOT WHEN IT COMES TO HER TASTE, HER DESIRES, AND LOOKS BEST ON HER HANDS. That you have to have a very clear idea yourself. And the fact that you are looking at both radiants and step cuts concerns me that you may not have a clear idea of what she's wanting.

Thank you. I see I have to do a lot more research. :)

You''ll be happier for it, honestly.
