Two piece engagement ring

Hi... this is probably a very silly question but i need to ask. I picked out a couple of engagement rings and one of them the jeweller said was a two piece ring, not a set and that once we get married i would also get a band to go with the 2 piece. Does this sound right to everyone else? Is there such a thing as a two piece engagement ring or is one piece always meant for the wedding day? If so, could I wear both before or not? Thanks for your help!!

I have never heard of anything like that but that doesn''t mean it''s not possible! Do you have a picture of this?

I''m not sure if it''s what you''re describing but I have seen some double shank rings, and then when you''re married the wedding band slips into the inside of the double bands.
