Two new Rhodolites

After recently lusting after something in a raspberry red and deciding against a spinel (for now), I went on another garnet kick and am glad I did.

Barry first sent me 3 stones, two larger rounds and a smaller oval, to consider - despite me wanting to want one of the larger ones, the oval was clearly the standout and sometimes rivals my Umbalite for brightness.
I had passed over this stone on Barry's site a number of times, so I'm happy he convinced me to consider it.

It is a 2.44ct Tanga, 8.5 x 7.5 and is a lovely cherry red colour in most lighting which often turns a bright hot pink with red flashes/sparkle. If this stone was a little larger, I would be designing a custom setting for it for sure ::)
As is, I am considering setting it in perhaps a bypass style ring with a nice spess (once I find a suitable one), but am open
to feedback on this idea or new ones.

Shortly after, Gary B completed a custom cut rhodo in an old mine cushion design, from a very pretty rough I had chosen a number of weeks ago.

It too is a cherry reddish pink but with a bit more purple mixed in - it is a bit darker in tone and not quite as flashy as the oval, but lovely none the less and the cutting is just superb.
It is also a great size at 5.89 carats, 10.5mm, and IF clarity. :))

Here are Gary's studio shots and the pic of the rough it was cut from (my piece being on the right). ;)

I don't know what else to say but WOW! They are both just gorgeous

Those rhodolites are beautiful, but I am partial to Barry's oval too. Wowza.

They are so pretty  I too have been lusting after some rhodolites, I just love the color!

The cushion is perfection!

They're both gorgeous! I'm really digging the supernova!

Yeah, the supernova sings to me too!

They are wonderful!
I too was tempted more than a few times by that supernova and foolishly passed on it. I'm glad you got it.
Also I had seen your rhodalite on the Finewater home page and wondered it if was a tease of future offerings or a custom job.
Congrats on both.

Ah...there you go again! So, so beautiful!

I like them both, the rough of Gary's stone must be pretty good!

agreed lavatea - there you go again indeed AJ :naughty: They're both beautiful stones.

I really love the squarish stone a lot...the high crown is very attractive, congratulations!

wow! Those are gorgeous!

Beautiful stones!! I especially love the first stone because it holds its fire in the sun and out. The shape of the second is really nice. It goes a bit too dark in the sun for me though. I can't wait to see what you do with these!

Two beautiful stones. I'm really partial to the color red, and those two are beauties. Very nice pictures, as well. Looking forward to more postings on this project. :cheeky:

Very pretty.

Hi! Base on the photos. Barry's oval in IN

Thanks for posting these lovely photos. I love the tiny crown on the cushion. Barry's stone is much better looking in your photos than the stock pic.

Barry’s rhodolite is certainly a pleasant surprise; I didn’t expect it to look that much nicer in your pictures than his.

Thank you all for your kind comments!

I am really happy with both, but of course many of you have picked up on what I mentioned- how the supernova just has a certain
extra glow / punch to it.

Here are some more pics from the same batch ::)

wow love to see photos and more photos  Barry's oval has a nice color!

WOW, aj!! They are both stunning, but the cut on that cushion is incredible! LUCKY GIRL!!

Beautiful stones, AJ! The faceting on the cushion is divine and it's color is really pretty.

I really love Barry's supernova  The color on it is amazing! When I first started collecting stones, I didn't care about size but now I really like a larger gem. Sadly, that's the only thing lacking in Barry's stone, but boy does it have presence!

Enjoy them both!

Any ideas on how you might set the cushion?

Yum yum yum!

Now I want some berries.
