Hi all, I''ve been mooching around on here for a while umming and aahing but am ready to take the plunge fairly soon. After a fairly extensive search (mainly involving waiting for new stock) I''ve hit upon these two.

They''re pretty much the same, except the $11k one has a clarity of VS1 and the $10k one has a clarity of VS2. Are there any majore problems with either diamond? Would you spend an extra $1k and get the VS1?

Thanks in advance. I''ll try to attach a couple pics as well -

Both looks good to me. For more bang for buck I would go with the VS2. The inclusions should not be noticeable.

oops, the image popped in. Here''s all four.

Oh, maybe you should put a hold on one or both of them. It has been know for stones to be bought while people are waiting for opinion from the forum.

I would probably go for the VS2 if verified eyeclean to your standards, and put the extra money towards the setting. It is often worth checking with VS2 that the diamond is eyeclean, most absolutely will be but I have seen the odd one where a tiny inclusion was visible which concerned the buyer.

Thanks, I''ll ask for them to be reserved, and am waiting on confirmation that the VS2 is eyeclean from all angles

I know the reports will often show inclusions that can''t be seen with the naked eye, but still... the VS2 just seems to have so many more speckles on the table compared to the VS1!

Maybe I''m just being a little obsessive - but should the information in the report below sway my decision?

No, don''t go by the plotting diagram of the report, it doesn''t give any accurate indication whether the diamond is eyeclean or not, WF will be able to tell you!

Lorelei''s right; the plot is only meant to indicate where the inclusions are located.

It''s highly unlikely you''d see these inclusions IRL. If your salesperson has said its eyeclean and you both have a common understanding of what''s expected by eyeclean, you''re good to go.

Thanks all.

In terms of the cut - I assume the combination of AGS0 and ACA mean I don''t have to worry about studying angles, depth and all those other confusing cut related percentages people throw around on here?

Since I love the HCA tool, I will help you out:

The first one is a 1.3 - in TIC range
Excellent (Light return), Excellent (Fire), Excellent (Scintillation), Very Good (Spread)
On the graph it falls squarely within the boundaries of both GIA and AGS Ideal (technically GIA uses the term "Excellent" rather than "Ideal" when describing their acceptance range, according to the diagram.)

The second one is a 1.1 - in TIC range
Excellent (Light return), Excellent (Fire), Excellent (Scintillation), Very Good (Spread)
This one is on the boundary between AGS Ideal and not AGS Ideal (but is still firmly a GIA Ideal)

TIC stands for "Tolkowsky ideal cut" which I believe could be interpreted as "classic cut".

I believe all ACAs are AGS0; this stone shouldn''t be an exception!

And I''d get the VS2 to save you some green. I don''t think an invisible difference is worth $1k!

You certainly don''t need to even run the HCA tool - Brian has done all the hard work here and handpicked these stones. Either will be gorgeous.

I say if the VS2 is eyeclean, then go with the cheaper one - maybe use the extra $$$ for some matching earrings?
