Lots of factors in pricing - the vendor you're buying from (where they are, if they have a storefront or if the only sell online), whether the stone is branded, what other information the vendor will provide on the stone, what policies re. upgrade, buyback, return, etc. & warranties the vendor provides for that stone, when the stone was cut, how long it's been in inventory...

There are other factors too, like the fact that some stones of given clarity are "better" than others and so will command more despite being similar on paper (but this more with SIs, VSs in this size are mostly all going to be clean to nitpicky standards), and other considerations like how you're paying, whether you're buying both stone and setting or just the stone (there may be more leeway if it's a package deal).

Are both stones from the same vendor and brand? Are both in-house? There are no flags in the numbers you've posted on either but numbers don't tell us the full story, I'd recommending calling the vendor and asking them what they think ::)

Hey Yssie -

Thanks for the feedback! They're actually both from the same vendor and have all the same warranties, payment options, etc. Sounds like there's nothing that stands out here -- I'll give the vendor a call and see what they say. I'll be sure to report back here just in case anyone else was curious :)

Please do, I'm curious! I'd have guessed there'd be more of a price difference too.

So the mystery seems to have been solved :) When I called, the vendor indicated that it was likely the 1.52 diamond was cheaper just because it's been on the website since 2008. When they proceeded to put the diamond on hold for me, they found the error - the diamond was actually sold on 2009 and someone accidentally posted it back up. That explains that!

Thanks again for your input!

Well that stinks, I'm sorry! It was a great price

Are you considering purchasing the other? Do you have any more info on it?

That's alright! It seemed almost too good to be true!

I do have my eyes set on the other one right now. So far it's the best one I've found that fits my search criteria. Admittedly I've focused most of my research on jamesallen.com. There's additional info on the diamond at http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/H-VS2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1487068.asp..

Hopefully I'll be making a decision soon!
