Hello
I have just received two cads for two different stacking bands. I realise cads usually look a little bulkier but would love some ideas from cad experienced people please! I'm trying to replicate the much loved baguette and round aka Kate Beckinsale and am from Australia so these are quotes from my local guy.

I can tell very little since the pictures are so small, but in the second one it looks like the rounds are too large. The bezels of the rounds and rectangles should be the exact same height. I cannot read the width but they should each be 2mm or less if you want them anything like KB's set. I feel like hers are less than 2mm.

Here is a picture of mine that is right at 2mm.

Thank you !! I've reattached the info in a bigger pic - this first pic is details for the KB inspired one - and I'll attach next pic soon.

Second band - do the claws looks huge or is it just the cad?

Since you have PDF files of the CADs, can you try to attach the original files? When you post a reply, below the text box, there is a blue area labeled "Upload attachment". Click on the "Browse..." button next to where it says file name, select your PDF file, then click the blue button labeled "Add the file" (next to the "Browse..." button). Then click "Submit" to post your response as usual.

Im trying again from my big computer (was on my iphone before). I appreciate your help and patience, just trying to fine tune them before I get the go ahead.

Hi LaurenK,

I think they look perfect. As DS mentioned the rounds needed to be in line with the baguettes. I think they will both be fine, the cads always seem to make them look chunkier than what they are. I am from Aus too, do you mind if I ask where you are having these rings made. I have had quotes from several of the PS vendors but have not made a decision as yet. Having custom made/bespoke is the price fair and reasonable?

Can't wait to see yours and how they turn out. :wavey:

Hi monnyjay! I'm in Brissy and my jeweller is in the city. Ill keep you posted! Both rings with Gst will be just under $3k for your reference

Wondering whether my new links work?

Laurenk, yes, the new PDF links work perfectly! =)

I am a novice here, and I don't know all the details of the KB inspiration ring, so I will just bump your thread :)) and maybe give a preliminary assessment based entirely on the information provided by DS earlier:

The first CAD has the right width (2mm), but the rounds are not bezel-set at all (like the original is), they appear to be in som kind of prongs.

In the second CAD, the rounds are bezeled, but the bezel diameter is larger than the width of the rectangular bezels. Per DS, they should have the same width. In addition, in this second CAD, the overall width of the band is given as 2.65mm, which is wider than what DS had recommended.

Hi drk14! Thanks for you help! It's great to have a fresh set of eyes...
Sorry for any confusion - I'm having two bands made, one is the KB baguette/round milgrained and the other is a single stone similar design - ill post pics of the actual items. I just loved the two different styles. Ill adress these with my jeweller and see what they can alter.

Other band is similar to a Gabriel NY one sorry not single stone.

Bump :)

One difference I noticed between the first CAD and the Gabriel inspiration is in the prongs for the round diamonds. In the original, they are round beads, but in the CAD, they are rectangles. I assume this is in part due to the CAD rendering, i.e., the jeweler may well plan to work on those prongs to make them more rounded than what is shown in the CAD. However, in my opinion, it would be difficult to impossible to turn a rectangular shape into a circular bead, maybe he can make them oval-shaped at best, which (imo) would look a bit weird.

Also, now that I look at it, in the original, the round diamonds are much closer together, basically touching each other (I'm guessing this is either "shared-prong" or "common-prong" pave, again, rememebr I'm a jewlery novice! =) ), whereas your CAD shows gaps between the diamonds.

In the jeweler's defense, it is sometimes not geometrically possible to fit X number of diamonds (of specificed dimensions) around a circular band of specified circumference. To fix this, he would either have to find a set of matched baguettes that are just slightly longer, or he would have to try to make the height of the band slightly lower (which would make the circumference smaller, thus allowing the diamonds to be crowded together more).

Alternatively, you could consider altering the design to put in a vertical bezel for the rectangular sections (e.g., a millegrain border between the round-diamond sections and the rectangular-diamond sections). The extra metal along the circumference would allow the diamonds to be pushed together more.

Thanks drk14, I've addressed the issues with my jeweller and cads are being fixed so ill share once I get them!

Laurenk,

Asumming you will stacking this with your new ring? Oohhhh!!!! Just beautiful!!

Hi Truluv! Yes!!!! I thought I'd bite the bullet and get these made as an eternity band! I've actually decided not To reset my engagement ring yet so adding some gorgeous Bands will help me feel the bling! How's your reset Coming along? :wavey:

Hi Lauren- well, we have settled on a basic concept, however I have decided to increase my budget and am waiting 6-8 weeks before we officially start; in the meantime, Caysie is making me a couple of pairs of earrings and has already sourced my replacement stone for my current setting. I'm having a sapphire put in my current setting to wear as a right hand ring. I just love working with her. I already have a few more projects in mind. I love your bands!!!! This will suffice your craving for a reset, at least for a while :naughty:

New cads are here: Thoughts please. My jeweller said the millgrain will be very declicate in real life but CAD is chunky...

YAY! Ill give him the go ahead. Ill come back with progress and finished results!

Just a quick update - I think my new stacking band will be ready this Friday!!! Cant wait!! Ill pop up some pics when it arrives. I decided to get the Kate Beckinsale one first and see if I can warrant more stacking bands on my finger before I order the other one!

YAY

Hi laurenk :wavey:

I've been following your thread, and I love your stackers!!

Regarding the round and rectangular bezeled band... I *love* that the rounds are a little larger -- the size difference makes each shape pop -- otherwise, it's harder distinguish between them... Unless you specifically intended for them all to be the same width, there is no rule saying they have to be. The different sizes make the band unique and, IMHO, are a very flattering design element. I've been thinking of having this style made by Caysie of CVB at some point and that would be how I would have her make it (with the rounds slightly larger).

Anyway, regardless of what you decided, they will be very pretty! Congrats to you! :))

Oops! Just saw the new CADs... can't wait to see the finished product! (I'll let ya know when I get the KB-style band made with larger rounds ;)) )
