Hi,

I'm considering a stone with twinning wisps. Are there such things as bad twinning wisps? What should I be looking for when evaluating this stone? Thank you =)

What is the clarity grade of the stone with the wisps? VS2 and above there is no issue. SI1 should be evaluated if there is a cluster of them. SI2's with twining wisps are frequently eyeclean, but if there are too many of them it can affect brilliance. But we've seen a lot of SI2's with wisps be perfectly clean and have no bad effect. If there is a great inclusion to have it's usually wisps.

Gypsy,

I found two I am considering. Both are Si1and over 2.25+ ct RB
How do I know if these will affect the brilliance?

2.4 ct G color SI1 GIA xxx

Scored a 3.7 on the HCA.

I'm looking at 2 x SI2, 2.2 and 2.3 ct respectively. Each has 5 plotted on the GIA but with the comment ''additional twinning wisps not shown' so i suppose there is more? I've read that they are inclusions to have but worried they will show in a 2 ct. Did not consider impact on brilliance until you mention... I've asked for a gemologist to inspect them. What questions would you suggest me ask the gemologist?

Thank you!

We are looking at stones with very similar specs. I am hesitant in uploading their details...

You should just ask the GG specifically if the inclusions are interfering with the brilliance of the stone in any negative way. They will understand and know what to look for. I'd also be sure to let them know what your definition of eye clean is. Most vendor (and they vary) judge eye cleanliness at about 12 inches in normal lighting, with 20/20 vision. This is also only evaluated in the face up position, so if you want to be sure that there are no visible inclusions from the side then you need to tell them that as well. =)

I would also suggest that both you request idealscope images of your stones. rockafellas stones may have light leakage under the table, greenbling, you mentioned that your proportions were similar, so, I would caution you both to inquire about leakage and post the IS when you get them, so that someone can further assist you.

Thank you Christina. THose are very useful tips.

By similar specs, i meant size, color and shape. I've spent enough time on PS to know that i should check out the HCA scores first ;) . I would call my self a 'senior beginner'.

My local person does not have idealscope equipment.

How else can I tell even if I call in the stones?

You don't need idealscope to examine a stones inclusions. You just need a experience and a loupe. As for the idealscope. They are 25 bucks you can buy one and use it yourself.
