Hi everyone,

well i went to another retail shop tonight and got the various stories about why you cannot buy online and why you cannot trust the certficates, I even got told about ''certifigate'' so I am back to looking online. I am looking for a Tiffany style platinum ring 2 ct ideal cut, H or I VS2 or SI1, my budget is $20000

I found these and ask your opinion or better reccomendations:

I am kinda liking the WF 6 prong classic tiffany setting.

I understand with WF you get 30 days for there Expert or ACA stones, correct?

Thanks Trel.

Hi Trel

They both look good, I have a query on the first one so will wait to comment on that one, and yes to the best of my knowledge WF do have a 30 day return policy but best to check with them to be sure.

Thanks for the feedback, when you say query..... are you asking WF direct about something?

Just something on one of the images I want to check with WF, nothing major! I am sure it is fine, just something I want to know for my own education.

I''d pick the second. Slightly larger and lower price.

(Lorelei, I''m pretty sure of what your question is after looking at the images, I''d be interested in the answer)

I will let you know when I get a reply!

@nd too, assuming eye-clean.

Interesting, even though stone 1 has better clarity as far as the grading goes?

Thanks
Trel.

If the second is eyeclean ( check with WF) then SI grades can be a great choice.

With this being ACA will this stone sparkle like crazy, the one I looked at last night was less than Ideal and did not sparkle as much as I would like?

This is a huge purchase for me and I obviously want to make the right choice, I will contact WF once you guys give me the green light! :)

Thanks all!

Absolutely. It will be a dazzler.

Once I make my selection I would like to get the diamond independently appraised, it looks like WF will send out to an independant appraiser, can you explain how this works, what is the typical cost and provide any recommendations of an appraiser to use?

Thanks
Trel

Use this link to find an appraiser near you so that you can be present when the appraisal is taking place, ask as some appraiser do not work that way, and can take home the stone once the appraisal is done instead of another day of shipping.

https://www.pricescope.com/appr_list.aspx

Or you can use the services some of the appraisers who post here regularly.

Price differ so check what equipments and services each appraiser provide and choose one that meets your need.

Thanks.

Now do I get the stone appraised before I have it set or after?

Trel.

You can do it both ways.

Loose if you want an accurate appraisal of the stone, as a set stone will not be able to be weighted and the prongs and setting will hide inclusions. Then send it back for setting, and back to appraisal for the appraisal of the finish product for a slight additional cost.

If you trust the vendor selling the stone, which I will for WF, the appraisal for the finish product is good enough for me. It will check the stone matches the report, and the stone is set right and the setting is good and give you an appraised value for the product. Cheaper and faster.

Thanks Stone Cold, just to Recap.... if the second stone is eyeclean by WF standards, do you think this is a good buy/stone?

Yap, looks good.

Ok I got the stone reserved, what do you think guys...

Congrats. :)

Was told by WF that the stone is eyeclean that they can only see the inclusions at 4 inches away after previously finding them with a loupe.

I''m actually a little nervous about the 4 inch thing from WF, I am thinking about this some more and think my girlfriend might actually be looking at this thing 4 inches away. What do you guys think about the 4 inch''s thing and do you think I might be able to do better for those kind of dollars?

Thanks ahead of time!

Sorry to be a pain about this guys, but this is a massive purchase for me and I am far from an expert, I guess I am looking for that final push or other suggestions before I pull the trigger.

Any last comments to do this or try something else would be greatly appreciated... I value all your opinions! :)

Is your gf short-sighted? For a normal person, 4 inch staring cannot be sustained for long, it is tiring. This inclusion can be found only after knowing what and where to look for and then at 4 inch distance. Not easy to find. When do you plan to propose? Soon after receiving the ring? If so, it can still be exchanged if your gf has mind clean issue with it.

Haha - no she is not near sighted

I did speak to WF and they said that I can return the ring no questions asked within 30 days. I think I will be the person who might have an issue with the clarity if it is not "eye clean" to me and I know that is a subjective term. Online buying is a little bit of a leap of faith but I guess with the return policy the most I have to lose is a returning mailing fee.

Thanks
Trel

Good luck. :)

OK so had a long chat with WF about the SI1 stone and my concerns, they pointed out this VS1 stone which they said if I was concerned maybe I should consider this... what do you think to this stone in comparison to the one I have reserved. If you could afford the price difference would this one be a better way to go?

I think you are overthinking the eye-clean issue. Is your girlfriend going to carry a loupe with her to examine the diamond? How about people she shows it to? Keep in mind that the people at WF were looking expressly for the inclusions because you asked (and you should ask) They only could find them once they knew where to look and then at 4 inches. In real world viewing, the closest people will get is 8-10 inches, because, as Stone Cold pointed out, anything closer is a strain on the eyes. Your gf and her friends will be looking at "ooh, sparkly diamond" not trying to find inclusions.

If it were me, I would go ahead and order the one you have on hold and examine it carefully. I''m willing to bet that you will not find the inclusions with your naked eye and will even have trouble through a loupe, if you can find them at all. If it is going to bother your mind that much, by all means get the VS1, it''s a great stone. Is it worth the chance to save $3000 to get the SI1 and examine it carefully during the return period? I think you''ll be blown away by the performance and "sparkle" and inclusions will be the furthest thing from your mind.

That''s just my two cents, take it what it is worth.

Yes I might just do that, I guess worst case I can swap out the ring within 30 days and go with the better clarity if I can see anything.
