Hi, I am new here, and am looking to buy a diamond.
I am just a little confused and not sure what spec i should choose.

My budget is $16K to $17K, Round Brilliant.
I don''t know if I should go for a bigger stone and sacrifice on the color and clarity.

So, it''s beteen 1.5 or 1.75 or even bigger.
Originally, I''m choosinb between 1.5 F VS2 Excellent Cut
or 1.75 G SI1 Excellent with some floru

but after reading some of other postings that, it seems like as long as the cut is excellent, I should feel at ease to have a larger stone with lower color and clarity, such as G, SI1

Can anyone help me out here? I would have to admit that I am somewhat shallow, when i came across PS before, the perception i had about diamond rings are the larger the better (feeling ashamed.

) So, as long as from any angle, without any aid, no one can see the inclusions or the stone appears as white as colorless, i think i probably will be okay about that. I know VS1 for sure without 10X you can''t see inclusions, so that''s what i feel most comfortable with. But within my budget, if I would have to go for VS1, then I could probably only get G for bigger than 1.5 or 1.5 but with a better color...

Can anyone help me choose? I''ve only been to a B&M store twice, so i really don''t know if there''s big difference between G and F? If there isn''t a big difference, does it mean as long as i choose a stone with excellent cut, I do not need to worry about G is not "colorless"?

Thank you guys so much for your help in advance!

Personal preference I guess. If you want best value, an Eye-clean SI1/2 is the best bet. Most of the trusted vendors here with their in-house stone will tell you if the stone is eye-clean or not if you call them up to check.

Color-wise, GH is quite safe for me, you might be more sensitive. Look at these 2 links to get a feel of how ideal cut stone looks face up compared to a D color, for colorless and near colorless range.

And there are quite a few selections in the H SI1 range for your size and price. Good luck, hope these help.

Welcome to Pricescope,

Reall the best thing would be for you to go and view some diamonds in person to see what your preferences truly are. If you have a place that stocks AGS0 cut grade or GIA Excellent nearby, then see if you can compare similar size, shape, lab colour grade in person, to get a good idea of how a well cut 1.5 G colour actually looks. Colour perception can vary tremendously so this is the best course of action if you are unsure.

Cut is key for a beautiful diamond, so you want to concentrate on that regardless. As to clarity, SI can be a great choice if verified eyeclean by a trusted vendor or seller - or yourself if you can see the stone in person, but do remember SI clarity grades are not created equal and individual eyesights can vary too - what is eyeclean to one person may not be to another so make your expectations as clear as possible to the vendor you are working with concerning this.

A G colour is plenty white to many and also a popular sweet spot, so check some out in person to see what you think.
