Hi All,

I would appreciate your advices to help me to buy my first pair of stud earrings (Budge $1000 - 1500).

1. Size
Want to buy a everyday earring, so no need to be too "impressive" (I am an IT professional). Will 40 - 45 points each be a good size? If I have to stay within budget, how small will be too small - no smaller than 75 points total?

2. Color and Clarity
I would not buy an ring for less than H color and VS2. Can you afford go down a bit, like I color and SI for earrings, since they are smaller, less noticeable?

3. Buy pre-set one or individual loose stones
I would like to buy a set to ensure they are "matching". But checked place like costco.com, they only offer I color VS2 quality. If I want better quality, do I have to select individual stones? Can you recommend some places to get better quality sets?

4. which to sacrifice - Size, Color and Clarity
If I can''t get 80points total, H color, VS2 with in $1500 in white gold, which of the three factors are least noticeable for earrings?

Thanks in advance!

For earrings I would go for cut first and clarity last. I would want near colorless, well cut and naked eye clean. Maybe check Whiteflash ready set to go earrings. I have 2 pairs of studs. YG RB that are .36 each and WG .25 each PC and find the size just perfect for me.

I have a totally opposite opinion. If I had to look at the stone on my hand all day, I would go for cut first, color second. I would want nothing less than a G.

For earrings, I spent a lot of time trying on studs to see what size looked best on my ears. As it turns out, smaller was better

I decided to go with J SI1 and I think one of them is an SI2 triple ex's ideal cut. It's difficult to match earrings. Mine are .57 and .58.

For your budget, it really depends on whether you want to sacrifice some color and clarity. I was initially looking at a pair of .46 F/G VS2 uncertified ideal cut and the cost was almost 3K + tax. That was at a B&M. They were great diamonds, but I realized I could get a lot more bang for my buck by using a PS vendor.

You can also get smaller studs with bezel settings which make them look larger.

I went with ID Jewelry because they were able to find exactly the size I needed. Yekutiel is a sweetheart. He also has endless patience, because I had a gazillion questions.

Brian Gavin has a great inventory as well. Good luck on your search!! I can't wait to see the finished product.

I think I SI's is a great for studs just ask the vendor if it is eye clean

Personally I would go I or J and SI1 (eye clean) for studs

Thanks in advance!
Also some vendors let you upgrade your studs. I recently did that so check w/each vendor if that is something you are interested in? Just for fun I looked at Costco to compare prices w/the studs I have now and I actually save about $500 buying online. My earrings are from Brian Gavin Diamonds so I would check with them too; they were great to work with.

Here is a thread w/various sizes of studs on peoples ears to give you an idea of size

here are these http://www.whiteflash.com/hearts_arrows/Whiteflash-ACA-cut-diamond-2219678.htm .38 ct and http://www.whiteflash.com/hearts_arrows/Whiteflash-ACA-cut-diamond-2219648.htm .38 ct

The setting for studs (from WF) around around $200 so you have a decent budget to spend on the stones. For earrings and pendants I would be very happy with beautifully cut stones in J or K color. No one gets as close to your ears or neck as they do to you hand. Brian Gavin has quite a selection of stones in the 0.40 size in those colors. Give them a call and see what they can come up with.

Thank you very much for all your replies!
