Hi guys,
I am a newbie trying to get some earrings for my gf''s 21st bday. Trying to keep my budget under $1000 ( I know some of you big ballers may think this is low). Something under the half carat mark. Not sure of where to go. I was suggested Robbins Bros. Quaility there was much better than Ben Bridges or Zales. Some people suggested the jewelry district in Los Angeles. I was wondering if I got ripped of for th folling .42 carat diamond earrings from Robbins Bros. It was F color and SI (think this is low but not sure if it matters since the earrings are so small)
Price about $895.
Any suggestions on where to go, best quaility and prices would help!

oh,forgot to mention it was Si1. Should it be at least VS1?

No, a round stone in SI1 at any carat weight under 2cts will almost always be fine. At under .5cts that small inclusion set will be mostly invisible and hoenstly, I would ONLY get VS2 or SI1 in earrings. Very few people can stare at their own ears long enough to see inclusions and let it bother them (those who can are GIFTED!) Plus, they are meant to sparkle, and at that size that WILL without interruption if they are cut right!

I got a pair of earrings that are .486 and .488 cts, H, SI1's and MAN do they sparkle!!! The pictures on the post are not all that great, but honestly, they are REALLY white, and I can not see the inclusions almost at all (unless really staring HARD!)

Well, it's a little late now. You have the option of just going with what you have; or, return them & get her involved in the process.

Edited to add: This weekend like tomorrow or this weekend like next weekend?

this weekend tomorrow....

If you get on the phone with Linda RIGHT away, she may be able to help.

She has a bunch of H, SI1 stones in the 30-point range (.60 total cwt) that fit your budget. They are eyclean and EXCEPTIONALLY well cut.

If she has someone that can set them this afternoon, then you may be in luck. She can overnight them to you if so. If not, another option would be to have her overnight the stones and the mountings to you. You could pick them up at fedex tomorrow morning and go straight to a local jeweler to have them set.

You should check in advance with your jeweler, though, to make sure they will set them for you without a problem.
