A BBC article stated we touch our faces 200 times a day.
I had no idea.
Apparently it's so automatic that we don't even notice.

I've been trying to not scratch an itch, rub my eyes, pick my noggin, scratch my ear, pick food from between teeth with fingernail, etc.

It's really really hard.

Apparently, when it comes to avoiding colds and flus, not touching these body openings is right up there with washing hands.

What's your experience?
Do you even bother thinking about not touching your face?

Now, this thread is making my eyes itch. :angryfire:

It's so much harder than we think!

ive been trying really hard to not do this
i read a thing on the flu a while ago that talked about this and how doctors and nurses don't touch their face
its really really hard
worse i rub my nose (completly different to wiping nose on sleeve)

It is sooo hard! In fact, it seems that to be 100% successful, we'd have to focus on that all day rather than anything else we are trying to do. It just seems to happen spontaneously without thought but I will try to focus harder on it!

HI:

I am very conscious about this. I don't .And handwashing, I do oh so frequently. I think about "breaking the chain" of infection all the time. That said, I do apply lipstick often!

cheers--Sharon

Is it bad I was just scratching the top of my nose when I saw your thread?

I was already trying to avoid it and now I've developed a nervous tic about it. I am washing my hands every 5 minutes and rarely leave the house, but I've been touching my face MORE now. :o

I was in an airport earlier this week and was walking around actively thinking “don’t touch your face don’t touch your face don’t touch your face.” It’s like every itch was amplified 1000 fold. I couldn’t stand it.

It’s not easy.

LOL :lol-2:

I can't do it, I always touch my face from time to time.

I used to work in controlled environment and had to gown up in bunny suits.

Handwashing as advised was and still is one of the processes that is taught and validated (hand dibs in growth promoting medium to detect the amount of bacteria after washing as well as after putting on sterile gloves aseptically).

If my gloved hands once cleaned by wiping with 70% sterile alcohol wipes touch anything such as the face, I would have to clean them again before they could enter the clean work zone etc. etc....

As a result of this training all those years ago, I seldom touch my face even to this day. However I do occasionally.

DK :))

This is how to not touch your face.

I was in the healthcare profession for over 3 decades and I am pretty good at not touching my face. Not perfect but pretty good. Not sure that will be good enough however...

I've been telling my family to avoid touching their faces more than usual. Of course while we were out my eye started itching and I began scratching away without thinking. Add to that, it's almost as if every time I turn around my daughter has her finger in her mouth :confused2:.

Too bad I can't spray disinfectant right into my eyeballs.

I think it's a bit easier for those of us who wear makeup since we're already accustomed to not rubbing or scratching.

This.

And I am a total germophobe. So, not touching my face and washing my hands, sterilising my phone, as well as not touching door handles, flushes and faucets in public bathrooms with my bare hands etc are things ingrained into me.

Yep, me too.
And my 3 y/o will start saying " We don't touch anything! We only touch mom, then we wash our hands and we don't touch the door" The moment we walk into a public restroom...

Awww! Adorable!

And I needed to suddenly remove a stinging contact lense, so I licked my fingers & got straight into my right eyeball :-o

I'm going to be the odd one here and say I don't think about it on a day to day basis. I'm gonna darn well enjoy life to the fullest and not wonder if touching my face is what did me in.

ew i hate door handles and im not even a germaphobe
i have disinfectant spray that is probably damaging the bakalite and the paint
i want those taps that you don't have to touch - our house isnt inundated with bathrooms so hopefully it will be an affordable option when we do the kitchen and the bathroom
