So does anyone else realize how truthaboutdiamonds.com promotes James Allen?? I asked them to help me find a diamond and I sent them my specs and a few diamonds from other websites. truthaboutdiamonds.com emailed me back saying the other diamonds from the other websites were "mistakes" and to instead buy this other diamond of lesser quality and higher price from James Allen.

Anyone else have this?

I've seen that site and never trusted the information on it. I believe the owner of that site gets a percentage of any JA stone they sell through their site. You don't need the services of that site to find a good stone. You can work with JA directly and post the link to any stone you find through JA here and get opinions from consumers who don't have any financial stake in the transaction. Before you post the links to any stones you're seriously considering, make sure you contact JA and put the stones on hold. There's no charge to do that.

I actually emailed them about a month and a half ago when I was searching for a diamond stone, and like you, the only options they suggested for me were from James Allen although other vendors had far better stones with better prices at the time. If you skim through the site you will notice this seems to be the case with other people seeking help in finding a diamond.

I think JA, along with several of the other e-tailers, has an 'affiliate' marketing program where they pay a commission for referrals from other sites. You've found one of those sites. Blue Nile, Amazon and quite a few others do the same thing and those same people promote the sites for the same reasons. Last I checked, JA had a slightly better program, which would explain the bias, but I don't really watch these things very carefully and they change occasionally so I'm not really all that sure how they're going at the moment. Betcha that's a 'truth' that they conveniently omit from their lessons. :o

FWIW, one of the nice things about Pricescope is that they could be playing this game and they choose not to, even though there are a few dollars to be made this way. There's JA ads here to be sure, along with many others, and they are clearly identifed as such. Kudos to PS for that.

Almost a year later and I would agree.

I emailed the specs and gia report # of a diamond I am thinking of buying and I got a link to a JA diamond

Like any consumer, you have to be smart about what you read and buy into online. Dare I say it, even here. I don't think I would go to truthaboutdiamonds.com and buy a diamond they recommended, because they are an affiliate marketer. That being said, the site does provide some good information about diamonds. I found the cushion article to be very useful. There is helpful information here too. I think that making diamond purchases is often expensive and emotionally-driven, so it's good to have a lot of different opportunities to seek information and make an informed decision. That's why this site is so valuable.

Here's what the truthabout guy has to say on the topic. I stand corrected, it *IS* included in their articles.

Was going to post the same - I read that when I first found the site and it's one reason I kept looking. As I have written in the thread about the lack of exposure for AGS and Pricescope, PS was a devil to find.

I just saw that he was credited as an expert on Huffpost weddings site.

+1 agree, as we had a discussion on another thread some time ago, finding PS was a effort and winding path
