I was a bit underwhelmed by the season premiere too. I read the entire series, and love this madly

I do love Eric and would love to see the book plot ---- Sookie/ Eric with amnesia--- Eric madly in love with Sookie, as she nurses him back to health in her house followed.. but the TV version seems to be going off on its own story line.

Tara is super annoying- okay, so Tara is angry again... The Queen is a bit unreal and jarring too ... but I am going to stay with the series and hope it comes back. I''m sure it will.

I''m obsessed.

Just had to get that out of the way.

*******************************SPOILER POTENTIAL AHEAD***********************************

For the record:

-Pam is NOT a lesbian, and in fact, has implied that she wants to get into Jason''s pants. For vamps, sex is sex. Doesn''t matter the gender, although sometimes they certainly have preferences. Eric prefers women. So does Bill. Pam is not so cut and dry.

-Book 4 is when Eric has amnesia. This is following Book 3 very loosely, so far, with Sookie meeting Alcide and discovering werewolves. Trying to not give a lot away here, because I don''t know exactly WHAT is going to happen this season. So far, it''s totally different from the books.

My opinion:

Sookie is attracted to Eric. Her having a tiny bit of his blood intensifies this attraction. (In the books, it doesn''t matter how much blood, I think Bill explains that the amount doesn''t matter to Sookie) The blood sharing IS very important for all of the following books (Book 10 sucked, btw). (Not to mention, Bill is boring. Why not daydream about a more interesting vampire?!)

Tara sucks. Seriously. The Tara in the books is a decent human being and NOT the suicidal type. She''s much more of a "pull herself up by her bootstraps and achieve something" kind of individual. Alan has made her into something unwatchable. I think it comes from Alan injecting her into the story when she''s not there in the books in a major way yet. There are things that happen in the books that make Tara into more of who she is LATER. From what I can tell, that Tara can''t develop because of what he''s done with the character. I would have preferred to see more on the lifelong crush Tara has on Jason...Not the Eggs and Maryann stuff.

I think Anna Paquin sucks as Sookie. I think she could be better, but she''s just not hitting the right beat of Sookie for me. The Sookie from the books is a woman who has a core of steel who isn''t going to be running around yelling for Bill, but still a "Southern woman" at heart. Anna''s Sookie just runs amok waiting for Bill to do stuff. She''s WHINY. And I know Anna has it in her to play Sookie well, but something there is disjointed.

This engagement storyline between Bill and Sookie sucks.

Actually, Bill sucks. He''s so BORING! (Books and in the show.)

The Queen? Same thing goes for her as I said about Tara. She doesn''t enter the story until much later in the books, and Alan seems to have totally messed with some things that make Sophie-Anne, Sophie-Anne. (In the books, she doesn''t actually appear until Book 5!) Two things of note from the books with that:
1. She would NEVER EVER sell vamp blood. Sophie-Anne''s profits come from tourism. Plain and simple. She might do other shady stuff, but selling vamp blood? Nuh uh.
2. She is very very rich and people are gunning for her because of that. The entirety of some major storylines from later books are dedicated to that. (BOOKS 6-8!!!!!)

Pam = my favorite character in the books.

Eric/Lafayette/Pam = my favorite characters in the tv show.

I like Jessica. She''s the one good thing, IMHO that Alan has added to the show. (No, she doesn''t exist in the books.) Oh, and keeping Lafayette makes me happy too.

I''m trying to be open minded, and I really do like that some things are different between the book and the show, but I feel like he''s trying to make too much happen with characters and in the storyline and it will end up exploding in his face. I desperately want there to be a Season 4 because it was my favorite book and the beginning of my favorite storyline, so I want this season to rock it. But deviating so far from Charlaine Harris'' work is just going to PO the die hard fans, unless it becomes better than CH''s work. And honestly, after the Maryann/maenad mess from last season, I''m not expecting a heck of a lot. Not to mention he could totally ruin Book/Season 4 for me....

EVERYTHING Freke said, ditto ditto ditto.

***************************Potential Spoilers*********************************************

I HATE Tara. Wish the producers would kill her off.

Lafayette is awesome - producers did a great job with his storyline, substantially changing it from the books.

Also love Pam. She's a great character in the books, but better in the TV series. Love her focus on shoes in season 2

Hoping Season 3 will follow Book 3 more closely than Season 2 did Book 2 (if that makes sense). They deviated a TON from Book 2 last season. I know they'll be following Book 3 to some extent because of the casting decisions (Alcide).

Yes, engagement storyline sucks, because that gets in the way of hot Sookie/Eric hook-up.

What the heck is up with the addition of the new dancer? Yeah Eric should not have a non-Sookie love interest (though it does make for awesome naked Eric scenes, so I do partially approve of the dancer storyline).

What is it about the Tara character that has so put off so many? I loved her at first, but then all the anger and constant bad decisions and Sookie rushing to protect and defend her got old . There is nothing like her in the book- seems like many people have had it with this character.

...this is borderline comical.

Yup, my thoughts too!

I have not read the books, but I find Sookie in the show whiny and needy. And Bill is boring. And green. And also rather whiny at times.

Jessica can be whiny, but in a way that "fits" for her young character and it is not offensive at all. I think her character is rather sweet so far.

Is anyone still watching?

I am torn, not really liking this season as much as the last two but I still have to watch it.

I just watched this trailer for the rest of the season and now i really want to know what happens.

I'm still watching and I am officially obsessed with Eric Northman. Alexander Skarsgard doesn't do it for me, but Eric Northman does! :naughty: I'm tired of seeing Bill naked...I WANT TO SEE ERIC!

Oh i completely agree! There's definately something about Eric Northman. :naughty: I have been over Bill for a while. I am really hoping that the series follows the books and Sookie ends up with Eric so we get to see more of him.

Still watching. Although this season is kinda strange. What is up with that guy Franklin? Guess he and Tara were made for each other. Crazy and whiny!

The character Eric is very interesting. I can't wait to see more of his life, before he was made vampire.

I must say that in season 2, the rooftop scene between Eric and Godric was superbly done. I mean the acting skills, so powerful. I wished that they could have kept Godric around for a bit.

I haven't watched one episode yet, but the second I learned that Alexander Skarsgard is in them, I started reading the books. I'm on book five, and I think I'm more than caught up, so I'm very excited to rent the first season for that Skarsgard eye candy. :naughty: That man is gorgeous.

I'm loving the books, by the way. So much fun.

How do you get to Lou Pine's bar from Philadelphia? This is a dire need case.

Random spoiler type questions:
Does the old vampire king want to marry the queen so that his lover will kill her?
Does anyone else like Eric with long hair better? He doesn't look like a Viking any more.
If Lorena wants to be the queen, why doesn't she hook up with Eric and kill the king?

1. He wants her territory, that's why he'd marry her.
2. I like him any which way.
3. Lorena will never be queen of anything.

Tara and whats-his-face....so creepy. I could have done without the graphic throat ripping/head bashing scene as well. Does bashing a vamp's head in really kill him anyway? With all of those weapons on hand why wouldn't she have decapitated him? But really, good riddance to that guy.

Sookie is whiny and needs to get a grip (nothing new I know). And why didn't she do her glowy throw the vamp across the room thing when Lorena went for her?

Erik Northman....mmm mmm mmm....I'm team Erik this season! holy hotness.

I'm sad that Lafayette was dumped, he was so cute with that guy...all shy and awkward.

Does anyone else think that Crystal is a were?

Crystal is a were. If you check True Blood news - they describe her character as a were and it is also in the books.

Sookie and Tara are both annoying - but I guess that makes the show interesting. Without annoying characters, it will be too boring.

Love Eric & Layfette - I really hope they don't plan on killing Layfette in the show. According to some articles I've read there are going to be only a few deaths this year but more meaningful ones. Quality over quantity...hm..you think they might kill Bill? I wish - he is so annoying.

I'm actually glad Alan is doing his own thing with the show. Not a fan of the books and I think when shows stick by the books, it becomes predictable.

There are too many characters in this show. They need to kill off a few and fast. The amount of storylines makes each of them less interesting as they share screen time.

But I hadn't watched TV for years before this, so perhaps this is the norm now? I am currently watching the UK series Ashes to Ashes (have already seen Life on Mars) and I think THIS is what quality TV should be...small cast, lots of face time, and amazing acting.

True Blood is fun, but boy, a lot of them overact!!!

I'm so over Bill. He's so boring. I'm definitely on team Eric this season. I've just started watching Season 3, though, just two episodes in.

!!!

Yeah and nothing actually HAPPENS!!!! :nono: Seriously, we are half way through this season already and there really isnt any thoughtful development to any character or plot in this whole season because each story line can only get about 2 minutes air time per episode. Urgh, i still love the show but at the same time it is becoming really frustrating!

When it finished my husband said "What? Is that it?? But nothing actually happened!"

But... i'll be watching next week again like the addicted little true blood groupie i am. :D

I agree with the too-many-characters-too-little-plot point. I am about to watch episode 4 while doing my ironing and it's really annoying how many storylines we have to keep track of. I'm not interested in Tara anymore! And I'm not interested in Sam's impending family drama!

I guess TB is an acquired taste. I was thrilled by the latest episode! I think it helps that I've read the entire book series, even though the tv series is vastly different.

Not really, I knew I would love this show the minute I saw the opening credits (which are amazing), it's just that I think I liked season 1 better. But I'll keep watching!

I hate the name Eggs'- how ridiculous, every time I hear Tara whine "ayygggs" I want to scream.

This season is so incredibly bad...

They achieved their vision of having more of everything I loved... too bad, I now hate everything I used to love, becasue it is just too much. And I would love to know how almost every single one of the actors became WORSE?

This was one of my favorite books, and there is a reason that the book left out half of the characters. Too many people!

Hate Tara. Sam storyline blows. And I really thought they were going to keep the storyline with Crystal, but they decided to change that as well.

Sucks.

What kills me is they blew through 10 books in the last episode, more or less. So now I guess they can do anything they want with the series and they won't be "inspired" by the books anymore. Boo hiss on them not doing the Eric/Sookie storyline as written. I would have loved to see that play out. Somebody stake Bill already, he's so boring! :angryfire:

So...any thoughts on last night's episode? I cheered when Erik staked Russell's husband...kind of an awkward time for it though...Also, last night's episode was the first time I think I've seen real chemistry and connection between Sookie and Bill, which I liked. I wonder if they were pulling from their real life emotions for inspiration during the break up scene.

I want to know more about Lafayette and his "power" and also about Jesus.

I'm not digging the Crystal/Jason storyline right now.

I'm happy for all the gay men who watch this show...they're getting some hot stuff to look at. Since I am not a Sookie/Bill fan, I have to say, there hasn't been much for me to ogle at!

I've said it before, but I think this season is bleh. I like it better than the Maryann business in season 2, but too many storylines that just seem arbitrary.

They said they were going to kill off some main characters, and last week's press said they did, but I beg to differ. Lorena, the magister, and that V'd out werewolf are not main characters. And this week neither is Talbot and those other werewolves.
Any votes on who else they should kill off?

And I HATE AP's acting in this show. She just sucks.

I've had a chance to oogle Erik on several occasions this season, once while he was banging the dancer int he basement of Fangtasia and then last night before he got it on with Talbot.

That actually came out the wrong way...yes, got to ogle him last night, but I'd like to see some heterosexual chemistry too! Jason and Crystal have NO chemistry in my opinion and neither do Sookie and Bill.
