I am new to this forum and could use some help. I originally was going to purchase a vs2/I triple x 1.34 carat diamond. After it was mounted in a setting though the color really bothered me even though the diamond sparkled amazingly. It scored a 1.4 on the HCA i then was considering a vs2/h but it was only very good cut polish and symmetry and I could still see the color. Now i am looking at an SI1/F color triple x diamond and I love the color and have viewed it up close for 10 minutes and its eye clean but when i scored it on the hca I think it was 3.6 or 3.8 and said worth buying if the price is right. However I compared it to the 2 other stones mentioned above and it sparkled just as much as the vs2/I and more than the vs2/h with very good cut.The price for the stone is 12,500. HCA said to buy if price was right. GIA report is 2131744988. Can anyone offfer me any advise on this stone. i would really appreciate it. Thanks so much.

Pavilion angle is off. It should be 40.6 to 41.0. I'd keep looking.

I thought that the triple x stones were more favorable stones.

There are some great stones within GIA EX and there are some that are not so good. Stick to 34-35 on crown angle and 40.6-41.0 on pavilion angle. Table 54-57 and depth 60-62. girdle thin to slightly thick.

-What is the exact carat weight of the SI, or plug into the GIA report check tool here http://www.gia.edu/reportcheck/ and post the link
-Did you compare in a variety of lighting types - in the spotlights under the counter, outside in sunlight (or by a window), in the diffuse back-office lights? If you did, and you found all the stones to be equally pleasing to your eyes, then you've done your homework and you should trust those eyes. You're buying the stone to admire, not the HCA tool ;))
-Yes, no GIA EX is going to be ugly. But there are lots of varieties and variations of proportions within that grade. The problem is that GIA averages measurements around eight sections of diamond, then rounds, and without more info - full scan, pics, seeing it in-person - we have no idea what sorts of ranges went into those rounded averages with which a cut grade is assigned. https://www.pricescope.com/journal/laboratory_cut_grades_what_report_doesn%E2%80%99t_show/

Ned help on another one please. GIA TRIPLE X VS2I color 1.34 carat table 58 depth 61.3 crown angle 33.5 pavillion angle 41.0 GIA report 2135890874 What do you think about the I color? I went ahead and purchased the si1/f diamond and outside I just dont see all the light bouncing off it like I the other diamond but initially I was so concentrated on the I color and didnt think Iwould be happy with it. NOW HOWEVER i have the nice white F color diamond which is EYE CLEAN BUT....... it doesnt sparkle as much especially out doors. IT SCORED A 3.4 ON HCA AND THE VS2 SCORED A 1.4 Ithink. Fortunately the store where I purchased it does have a 30 day return policy so I am fine thee. My question is should I go for the i color diamond with the great hca score ? - OR GO WITH THE f color stone that doesnt sparkle as much? Please help!

I used the above numbers that Diamondseeker also shared with me, and found a fabulous stone. I would try to stick with her suggestion, it works.
(I have an I color stone, and love it. Looks plenty white to me.)

1. Schedule an hour with your jeweller.
2. Have them show you both stones without telling you which is which, walk around with them and examine in a variety of lighting types, and see which your eyes prefer.
3. Pick that one, whichever it is.

I am not saying "make the change" because althought I would pick more sparkle over less every time, or certain types of sparkle over others, in your original post you comment that your F sparkled just as much as other stones you were comparing with, and I am concerned your new discovery of HCA score is affecting your opinion of what your eyes are seeing. A blind test is a good way to find out for sure.

I wanted to thank everyone for all their help and suggestions.Yssie I did just what you suggested this morning. there was no comparison on the two stones in terms of sparkle. this was so noticable outside in the sunlight. The vs2 stone just really sparkled. I swear sparks just flew off it. Initially the jeweler had thought that my setting was detracting from the sparkle of the stone. So she put the vs2 stone in the setting and the difference was instantly recognizable. It was perfection.Funny enough when I was outside looking at the ring with the vs2 in it a gemologist was in her way to work and out of curiousity I asked her opinion on which stone she herself preferred as the other stone was outside for comparison and she chose the diamond I like best as well. I think initially I didnt want to give too much credibility to HCA and thought I was imagining the difference in sparkle but like I said previously I DID NOT take the si1/f outside to view it.Now I know the importance of different lighting. The funny thing also is that initially I was very bothered by the vs2/I becasue of the color but now I dont even notice it very often and if I do it doesnt bother me at all. I ACTUALLY LIKE IT! How crazy is that. I cant thank everyone enough especially diamondseeker. I Wwill post a picture of my ring with the new vs2 stone in it in the show me the bling forum so you can see it! Who would have thought that I would actually prefer the diamond that costs 3000 less! Guess I have enough store credit to get a pair of earrings lol and so it continues....
