I had a radiant cut Ceylon sapphire with a halo of diamonds and trillion cut diamond side stones custom made. The diamonds were to be F color and VS1. When I received the ring, the trillion stones did not seem to be as white and clear as the pave diamonds. Brought the ring to 4 jewelers and they say that the trillions could be an F but could be closer to H. They look almost oily or cloudy too. The designer insists that the trillions are F color and VS1. Is it that the trillions and paves are different cuts and will never look right, or am I just being neurotic? In a lot of lighting the ring looks great but in other lighting there''s a bright white halo and the trillions disappear into the band of the ring. This is a natural sapphire dealer who has been in business for over 70 years. Since it was a custom job they will switch the trillions to D''s but of course at a cost.

What should I do?

Could be various reasons ranging from bad cut to very strong fluorescence ( rare) or the diamonds are just plain dirty. I would give the ring a good clean being careful to use methods that won''t harm the sapphire, if that doesn''t help take it to an independant appraiser.

Had the ring cleaned and did bring it to an independent appraiser and he was the one who thought the trillions were closer to an H. Are there different types of faceting for trillions?

yes, trillions can be cut differently.
