Can someone please verify something that a Jewelry store told me? They said that they did not recommend getting a trellis setting for a Princess cut diamond because the setting is actually weak along the crossing arms of the trellis i.e. what makes it look unique is what makes it weak and that the chances of the ring getting bumped and the diamond lost are higher than with a cathedral setting. Thanks in advance.

I''ve never heard that, and there are a few on here with trellis settings, and no one has had any trouble that I know of. I wouldn''t think that is true, of a well made setting.

Thanks for your help. I had no idea there was so much that goes into the engagement ring process.

There are some wonderful PS vendors that I am sure would be happy to help you. WF has a beautiful Trellis Setting, just an FYI and welcome to Pricescope!!

You''re welcome. You might try another jeweler if you are working locally.

And if you have any other questions, just ask. We know how daunting this can seem.

Did you ever find an answer to this? I had someone tell me that same thing

A well made trellis is perfectly secure. Done poorly, anything can be a risk.

The structure in a trellis comes from the seating ring. This is the little bar right below the stones that tie the prongs together and that wraps around each stone individually. This effectively makes the prongs extremely short and therefore difficult to bend. If anything, this makes a trellis style better, not worse than a traditional type of head.

There ya go. Thanks Neil.

bleh...just get a well-made trellis ring from somewhere else and you will be fine. Trellis designs aren''t among the rings I would list as *vulnerable* to damage like really thin pave rings for example.

However, no matter what type of ring you get I would recommend insuring your ring just in case.
