Have you been on one? What did you like best about it? Least? Was it hard being on a ship for such a long time? Where did you go? Cruise line?

Dh & I have been eying up a trip to Spain for our honeymoon. We find it is easier to save money with a specific end goal in mind as opposed to just saving up for a honeymoon that we don't know where we're going or doing, fykwim? I just wanted to see what other people thought of these types of trips as it is one of 3 ideas we are inching towards.

Why not just fly to Spain if that's where you want to go? Tickets are not that expensive-I've flow there twice and the tickets were $500ish the first time and $800ish the second time. I've never been on a cruise and have no desire to. It seems like a waste of time off to hang out on a giant, corporate cruise ship instead of being in an actual foreign country exploring.

If I were looking at a transatlantic to Spain, I'd just save for the tickets and spend the extra time enjoying Spain. But I don't like boat or cruises in general.

Agreed, not many stops across the ocean, so you will be ship bound almost the entire time, unless you really like the cruise.

Have you ever been on a cruise before? I love to cruise, but I don't think a TA trip would be my first choice for a first cruise. For one, regardless of whether you know if you get air, car or boat sick, a ship is a different animal all together. Some people get sick on them when they don't have issues in any other common motion sick situation (Lol, did that make sense?). It's also a LONG trip, like a week, so if you find that you don't care for being on the ship, then tough. You're stuck. Additionally, while cruising comes with benefits in the way of meals being covered in the cost of the stateroom, you do have to pay for extras like soda and liquor and these are often over priced. Similarly, Bingo, gambling and other activities are often fee-based. For me and DH, if we were stuck on a boat for a week we'd want to drink and gamble and that would cost us extra money and take away from the general cost saving benefit of cruising. Basically what I'm saying is for a TA cruise you have to plan for more extras because you're going to be limited in what you can do for fun.

ETA: What are the other trips you're considering?

www.cruisecritic.com Ask your questions there. I am getting that you are not a seasoned cruiser and a TA cruise may not be right for your honeymoon... You could fly to Spain, and then have lots to explore...If you cruise there, lots of time on the water and if you aren't used to it, you could spend part of the honeymoon being sea sick...

;))

You sound so much like another poster, funny how that works.

Good luck!!!

I've been on a cruise before and the water didn't bother me and DH has been on one as well. They were shorter trips like a few days so not quite the same. We've both always wanted to go on a cruise to Europe and neither of us had been to spain before so that was the one we looked at!

Other trips we are considering are spending time in Greece (although DH has already been there once so it's not nearly as exciting as going somewhere we both have never been fykwim?). We've also considered going to Rome as well which seems like a really intriguing place!

Why not fly to Europe and THEN get on a cruise of the Med?

We flew into Barcelona, stayed in the city for 3 days, then boarded the ship for a 7day cruise around the Med and returned to Barcelona, then flew to Madrid and spent 2 days there, then flew home.

The only people I know that do TA cruises are retirees. TA cruises are usually no less than 14 days, and you don'thave any stops anywhere. I love my "at sea" days, but I couldn't handle 14 in a row.

Thank you for the suggestions everyone :) I ran them past DH and we are definitely considering a few of them! Regardless of which we choose I know it will be great because it will be our HONEYMOON!!! :D

What does fykwim mean?

Guessing, For You Know What I Mean = FYKWIM.

hmm....okay, "for you know what I mean" makes no sense to me because of the for in the phrase, but whatevs.

I think it's meant to be "if you know what I mean"? I've seen IYKWIM used on other sites. I've never seen it used with an F for if though!

now that phrase I definitely understand!

Hahah I meant to do iykwim
Sorry to be confusing :)
