... 2 Buck Chuck back down to 2 bucks.
Here in So. California it's been 3 bucks for years, and I think most recently 3.50.

How weird.
Who lowers prices these days, especially by nearly half?
Must have been the fame and staying power of the term itself, 2-Buck Chuck.

I SO wish we had it in NY!

Your liver is grateful. :wink2:

I have a theory why TJs lowered the price of 2BC, declining sales.
In the last few years there have been an explosion of wines under $5 that are much better than 2BC.

I credit 2BC with creating and fueling the demand for better low-price wines.
When competitors duke it out we consumers win.

I think these new competitors cut deeply into sales of 2BC, when sold for $3.50.
I, for one, have not bought 2BC for a few years.

Having moved from SoCal to NJ, why now???

When DH lost his job, I used a lovely TJ's gift card to fill our wine rack with the all the Two (three) buck Chucks it would cover (and the internet said was "worth it") and I was happy. Now I'm in NJ and miss it, as the TJs that finally opened near us does not (yet? there sure is room for it) have a liquor section.

Kenny, you are very probably right in your theory. If the TJs (sort of ) near us ever gets it's NJ liquor liscence, I will be ready and willing to try the Two Buck Chuck again, or any of the TJ deals they offer. (when we first moved to SoCal, we heard all about Two Buck Chuck, you maybe can imagine my amusement, then amazement at the idea.)

KK, 2BC is certainly NOT a great wine ... I wouldn't even call it a good wine.
But @ $1.99, for a table wine when you have no guests, it's one of the best wine values EVAH!

BuRp ... uhhhhm ... blechuhhh.
Ded ugh shay shomtining?

Literally the cheapest wine by the bottle I can get here is Costco Sauvignon Blanc. $5.99

Dang Gurl! :-o
Y'allz need to move here.

Our local Costco has Kirkland Chardonnay for $7.99 for a 1.5 liter bottle, which numbers out to $3.99 for 0.75 liter.
It's actually quite decent.

There's a house for sale right down the street.
The weather's beautiful all year here in my Southern California Beach city. :cool2: :cool2: :cool2:
We don't even have a house heater in the winter or AC in the summer.

Our local Costco has Kirkland Chardonnay for $7.99 for a double bottle, 1.5 liter, which numbers out to $3.99 for 0.75 liter.

If it was a decent state for teachers I'd be there!

Yeah, California's Prop 13 (which lowers prop tax for homeowners) has harmed schools.
My SO works at a school and when I buy office supplies at Costco he asks if he can take some to his job.
Nobody there has pencils or pens. :nono:

Is "Buck Chuck" a brand or a reference to any cheap wine? Chuck in Australia means to vomit....

It is a nick name. The actual brand name is Charles Shaw, Chuck being short for Charles. Although if you drank enough, at $2 a bottle, it would be a cheap “chuck” shortly after.

Dh and I are moving up into fine wines apparently (insert sarcasm). 20 years ago we were buying 2BC, then we moved on to Yellow Tail at around $5/Bottle, and now drinking Apothic Red at $7/bottle for our daily table wine!

editing to add: for daily wine drinkers, you can’t beat 2BC for value, will have to go gran some to try it again!

We stock up on them for cooking. I use some red ones like the cabernet or shiraz in meat sauce for pasta and sometimes the white ones for deglazing pans. I'm not overly fond of wine, but the bonus is there's leftovers to serve with dinner, which my husband enjoys.

I know people say you should only use good wine that you'd drink to cook with, but 2 buck chuck is good enough. Also, I'm too cheap to buy good wine and wouldn't know if I was drinking it anyway.

LOL
It has another unfortunate nickname, Two Buck UpChuck.
IMO the Chardonnay and Shiraz are the least objectionable.
Then around Thanksgiving for a couple months they release a young Beaujolais that (some years) can actually be nice.
Every year I give that 2BC a try.
