I know, I know. It''s an addiction. Today I traded my 2.55 k vvs2 princess for a 1.35 E vs2 emerald cut. I couldn''t help it. I had a 2 ct G si1 EC stone called into the place I usually go, but when I arrived, even though it was a G and relatively eyeclean (feather on a facet), with darn near perfect specs, this happy little "perfect" 1.35 just screamed at me from the case. So, I got it, and made up the difference with a pair of 2 ctw solitaire earrings. So I guess you could say I just migrated the bling up to my head. I pick it up tomorrow after it''s set in my ring.

I think it will go well with the little rb sidestones in the setting and look very "blended." I hope I can adjust to the size difference, but I was tired of spinning the thing around when I got self concious, and I missed the stately elegance of an EC. (Which I know is crazy since I''ll have these rocks in my ears now.) Something about that E color and the way it worked with the light-it just outperformed the larger EC (which looked kind of "moody" to me). Has anyone else ever traded in a way that doesn''t make a lot of sense to the casual observer? I just knew what I felt and I swear this is my last trade. Can''t wait for tomorrow.

You have to go with what makes YOU happy and forget about what anyone else thinks! If that emerald cut spoke to you then it was the one for you. Who cares if it is smaller? There is nothing classier than a beautiful emerald cut diamond. Besides you got those great earrings too! Please post pictures of your new goodies for us!!! By the way my stud earrings are each as large as the center stone in my three stone wedding ring (1.25 carats).

Sundial,
Thank you. You made me feel better. I really like how these studs look. I figure they are now a part of my professional wardrobe, too- I was worried they would look ostentacious, but they seem to make my face "brighter" and I really like them. My dh kept saying, "but you won''t be able to see them" and I told him it''s how I feel in them that matters, too.

Where are our pictures Justjulia??? We''ve got to see that new emerald cut ring and ear shots of those studs!

What a shopping trip!

Pictures all around please!

Hey you gotta be happy right?? Now where are those pics???

I just replied to your other thread, so I''ll repeat the question. First, from the avatar the ring looks beautiful but I would love to see some more pictures! Second, I noticed you went from a bigger K to a smaller E so I was wondering whether not only you wanted an EC, but whether the color was bothering you? Do tell? Does that make this lucky stone number 13? Never say never, my friend!!

That was confusing-sorry about that! I took the easy way out and started a new post-too darn lazy to hunt the old one down-my bad. Well, let me see. If you want to know the real story, I was showing a colleague the princess and she commented on how pretty my other ec was and why did I trade, etc etc. I told her I wanted the size and the sparkle and she just looked at me kind of sideways. Ok, so that got me thinking. I told dh that I really did miss the sublime elegance of an ec and we agreed to "just go look." So, look we did, and this ec just spoke to me. It was so crisp and beautiful. I had been becoming more aware and uncomfortable with spinning my big rock around at meetings and things (my colleagues do not wear big rocks) and for now at least, this is a reprieve. I know this sounds like I''m unstable (hey, I admit it even!) but I can''t help myself. The thing with the earrings is that this place will let me trade them for full value if I should ever want... and maybe someday I will be able to afford again the 2 ct+ E of my dreams-(once my kids leave college and I am not at this work place?? I dunno.) Well, this rock is a pretty thing and I think it sits better in my existing setting-dh agrees. Yep, it''s number 13!! What is wrong with me??!!

Oh, I guess I should add that I like ec''s pretty much colorless. (Of course, if I saw one of another color that called to me, well....)

Oh, and here''s the post info I restarted (in case I left anything out). Sorry I''m so weird!:

I traded (I''m done saying "up"grade because this felt like a nice lateral move in a way--I yo yo) my 2.5 K princess for this 1.35 E emerald cut. Although nicely cut as that princes was, I had wanted the look of an ec back. This one caught my eye and I snapped it up. We are getting to know each other and so far so good. I spent the difference on a pair of 2ctw studs (which I thought I would never like but the size is actually ok-not as gimongous as I feared). This way, I can fit in at work (not appear too out there as in "I still need this job thank you") and then flash the studs when I''m out dining and I get that insecurity thing (you know what I''m saying). Ok, so what do you think of it?
Oh, and btw, those of you that know how many times I''ve traded would appreciate the funny in this- the jeweler said that the setting almost didn''t go back together this time!!

Love the new avatar, but we need to see some more pictures and the earrings too!!!

Thanks for the info JJ! I was curious about going up so high in color and a smaller size stone, was curious about the thought (or emotional) process behind it! It doesn''t seem crazy to me at all - when a stone speaks to you, it speaks to you! Would love to see some more pics!

Oh Sundial, you''ve been so patient with me! I''ll get some pics soon! I forgot today. I have to go to a seminar tomorrow, so it may be a couple of days.... I''ll do it! I''ve thought about your words a lot. Thanks.

FireGoddess, I know it sounds funny, after I liked that K princess and all, but I can be a color nut. I tend to find something and perseverate on it. It may just be the samples that I have seen, but there''s just been something exceptional about a colorless ec. This particular one had a lot of fire coming from the corners and the steps. It was in the jewelry case in a row of ecs and stood out like a beacon. I wonder what a canary yellow ec would look like? Well, maybe in an anniversary ring?

the lil'' sneak peek is nice...
but...
i can''t wait to see the BIG pics!

Yeah, I was determined to finally get that one done so at least the avatar was matching what I was saying! ha
I''ll get busy with the camera--I may try to get some pics tonight, but the lighting may be way off.

Here''s a really bad shot, with kitchen lighting. I promise to do better in the next couple of days. 2ctw studs, 1.35 ec ring. Harmony.

Julia - Your EC looks fabulous in that setting. Congratulations & I love your earrings! Don''t worry about the pics I still haven''t mastered my camera yet (lol).

Thanks for tiding us over with a preview picture Julia. Those earrings are fabulous and I think the size looks great on your ear! Can''t wait to see more close ups of that lovely emerald cut!!!

Thanks Diam100- I''m getting used to the studs. Do you think they balance with the ring? I hope so. This camera thing is frustrating.

Sundial, Thanks. It seem to be agreeing with me as far as feeling ok size wise (I never thought I would end up with these but doggone I like em).

Do I think the earring balance with the e-ring... oh yeah! I must fight the urge to upgrade earrings, must fight the urge...(lol)

hee hee
Dh says the ring is not changing again. (And honestly the setting will fall to pieces if I dare..lol) Soooo, now I have no choice but to worry about the ears. This has lead to wanting to close up old holes from days of old so these studs can stand alone. (I posted something under diamond hangout to this effect--need opinions on how to go about this!)
Yeah, my next upgrade will be toilets that I don''t have to hold the handle down on forever to flush (long story, bad choice when moved in), or a new dryer, or frige.....
