Get a emerald cut en cabochon...in my opinion cab cuts make emeralds with heavy jardin look more interesting then faceted emeralds.I have a carat size, oval shaped flawed, sapphire that is cut en cabochon and set in a domed yellow gold mens pinkie ring.People comment on it because they have not seen a cab cut stone before.Go for the cabochon!

Oooh. I love this idea. Emerald is my birthstone too, but I''ve never had the nerve to go for an emerald ring knowing how fragile the stones can be. I have some emerald earrings, one set is .75 ctw and have beautiful colour and terrible clarity, the other are about .10 ctw, and have amazing colour and clarity but are soooo tiny! I love decoded''s suggestion of using a green sapphire as a substitute. I''ve thought of that too. I love your ring as is. Are you planning on upgrading your diamond too?

The photoshop skills leave a bit to be desired... Since I always like to look at multiple options before making a choice, here is your wonderful ring in a few colors:

omg that sapphire is gorgeous deco!! I kinda blew the bank on the last rock though - that looks spendy lol

Wow tsavvy!!!!! That''s awesome! I like it!

And I love cabs - I just don''t know how that would work with this setting. This setting has a deep v trench pretty much made to fit the shape of the diamond... let me show a pic of that:

Or what about this green sapphire

omg that thing is cheap!!! sooooo tempting... what do you think? I''m a pretty flawed person and I thought a flawed stone would be "fitting" but the setting is what it is and I don''t know how much more irony I need in my life either - that sapph is just gorgeous.

I have a general question - is it easier to fit a smaller stone or a larger stone into a setting? I have some definite parameters here.

Well ... if irony appeals, the sapph is "treated" ... some folks would consider that a "flaw" **shrug** It sure is pretty though.

You might want to try a stone that is more durable than an emerald. I have an emerald ring I rarely wear because I''m afraid of damaging it. What kind of setting are you thinking about for your diamond?

Irony appeals but it comes in many forms... and yeah that sapphire is gorgeous alright :) What do you think about the bottom of the stone and the setting? You know your ring was inspiration to that ring... I wanted more milgrain like yours has... I love your ring.

I'm not worried about the durability - with 3 rubies on the bottom and an emerald on top it would likely become a family/holiday ring and fill that role to perfection. I mean I am, but I have other rings that I could wear instead AND that ring is fort knox - it is one of the most protective settings ever, and that's the problem with my diamond. It needs the opposite.

I love my stone and I wanted to protect it, but it needs to be uncaged and set free. Something extremely minimalist and with flow. Beyond that I have nothing lol

Then an emerald it is!! Then on to resetting your diamond. Will you be wanting our help? There's a Leon setting that may have your name on it

I don't know what I'll do with it. There are a lot of options and I haven't put much thought into it, surprisingly. I'd rather just have ideas submitted to me and pick one. I want as little metal as possible to showcase the stone, and I want it to be sturdy and architectural. And that's all I've got. Nothing flashy except the stone itself.

The stone is another story. It is still a mystery to me. But I love it as much now as ever. I wonder sometimes if the cut could be further perfected but I don't regret for a moment buying this style of stone or this stone itself. My stone has a soul to it - if that makes sense - and I am in love with it.

I love my ring too - it just doesn''t flow the way deco and tg said. I almost feel like I designed this setting with O for another stone. But it is a legacy ring for me and I think having my birthstone in it would be very fitting. I have quite a bit of time to pick a stone... my birthday isn''t until May.

Of course I am moving to China in January...

For old time''s sake - here is my absolute favorite picture of my stone...

Oh Sara! You and your awesome diamond, and your ring are back. I was thinking about you the other day. I love all the work you did to understand your diamond, and it is great to hear that it is withstanding the test of time, and you still love that stone.

I agree with jewelerman. An emerald cabochon is a fantantic idea.

Thanks RS :) I wrote to him... we''ll see what he says :)

A few ideas for you to showcase your stone:

I''ve always loved leon''s work but I think I''m too weird to wear him. Some of his stuff is so fantastic but I wear birkenstocks - it''s hard enough pulling off over 2.5 carats lol

There are so many options and I don''t know where to begin. All I know is my stone needs light and I want it simple, elegant, and unique. no extra diamonds or gems, no extra frills. and I want it fluid. I''m not in a hurry though, I''m not sure I''m even bringing my ring to China. I took it to Ireland but I really didn''t wear it. I mostly took it out all gollum like and peered at it under the weak irish sun. The unique lightshow that my stone gave isn''t the same.

I think "I don''t understand the question" ... lol! Do you mean do I think a deep sapphire will fit into your setting? I''m not sure to be honest. Its just math right? Depth measurements can be compared with the "V" of your setting -- and prongs could be tipped to give a bit of extra room. Maybe?

Thanks for your shout out to Sparkly 2.0. The double rows of extra fine miligrain captured me immediately also. Don''t see it a lot ... or done well often. Gypsy posted a VERY similar setting the other day. Have no idea where she found it. Maybe she''ll weigh in. But I imagine you''re going for something more Boston Jeff Leon for Ol'' Honker. You''re not "too weird" for The Boston Jeff. Just weird enough.

I think it is a great idea to get a colored stone., emerald would be nice for occassional wear or perhaps a hardier stone for more daily wear?

I think you should post over in the colored stone forum when you get more serious in your search. The experts in there are amazing! Also, re the calibration issue. there are a few master gem cutters that people on PS use a lot and they can cut you a stone from rought that is the exact right size, the price is not much more than their usual stones. All depends onthe rough. If you like green, there are some really great garnets that come in all shades of green and are very veyr reasonably priced though no less gorgeous that their more expensive cousin, emerald. I don''t mean Tsavorite either, which is pricey too. Perhaps mint garnet or just a garden variety green one.

And I think your diamond looks killer in that holder thing -- so I''m thinking sinmple solitaire with a very thin shank a la Leon Mege or a million others.
