Toxic cadmium found in jewelry in Washington state

This is only part of the reason why I don't buy jewelery made of "mystery metals". The other is without fail, I end up breaking out where it touches me.

I hear you about the cheap metals. I have now developed a reaction to bobby pins:(2. This is kinda a big deal in my life because my hair is quite long and I work in the medical field. Actively looking for alternatives that won't break my hair or make my scalp hurt for days after just a few hours.

Have you tried Snap Clips? You can probably buy them on Amazon. When I was younger and my children were little I would braid my hair in the back starting at the top and put a pony tail holder at the base of my head..You can tuck the pony in and use a Snap Clip if you need to wear a surgical cap to keep all your hair underneath. I never had time to keep my long hair looking nice unless I did my hair this way..

Thanks, I will look for them! I always have my hair up at work. People were shocked at the Christmas party at how long it is, lol. I think I can keep it this long because I always have it up!

My hair is fingertip length, thick and heavy! For work I use SpinPins which are made of steel, and they work wonderfully. No more lost bobby pins because these don’t slide back out. I get them at regular stores but they can be had from amazon too. I couldn’t live without them!

Thanks, I'll get me some! My hair is to my waist band and pretty thick. So nice to hear from someone who probably has more hair than me:lol:

Sorry for the threadjack!
@Mrs_Strizzle if you’re interested there is another forum online for those of us in the ‘longhair community’.... if you just search for that phrase you will find it. There’s lots of info on other tools and everything else to do with long hair.
Sorry for the threadjack again!

Back to the thread subject, I wanted to mention that thrift shops are rife with this kind of cheaply-manufactured jewellery and many families on a tight budget will look for Halloween costumes and accessories in second hand stores. I’m glad the word is circulating online about the danger; hope some people are able to avoid cadmium and other risky exposure.
