TOUGH dog toy recommendations?

I know PS has many dog lovers! Any recommendations on super tough toys that are hard to destroy? I'll be adopting a very sweet senior miniature schnauzer, named Mimi. Her foster Mom has told me that she LOVES LOVES LOVES toys...to death. She has managed to destroy and unstuff every toy in her house.

Plush toys are out. ANYTHING with a squeaker is out. She must kill them both.

She does like to play fetch. She's small, about 14lbs, but a tough little girl. She'll be 10 this year, but she still has all her teeth!

So...any ideas?? :naughty:

Another favorite of our dogs is similar to this: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3914997

The ones we bought use a rubbery ball rather than a tennis ball. I prefer our rubber balls since they get less stinky than the tennis balls. One of or dogs loves to hold on to the rope "dreadlock" and swing it around his head, hitting himself in the process.

Congratulations on your new baby!

Our lab has "jaws of death", so we go with anything made by Kong.

Thanks guys! Keep 'em coming!

I also plan to pick up a deer antler for her from the local natural pet store. Her foster mom isn't sure what triggers her exactly, so there will be a period of experimentation. She MUST kill all things with a squeaker. I'm hoping she likes ropes and kongs and things.

Toys are expensive! I can't buy her a $10 every other day because she kills them all! I'm really hoping we can find some things that have at least a few months of lasting power before needing replacement.

I also like the nylabone dura chews, those lasted awhile with Molly. Someone else recommended a Cuz? I'd never heard of those, but I found them here:

If you look through the "Customers who bought this product also bought" section, there are a TON of shapes and sizes and colors.

Audball--Bai has been gnawing on those two toys I posted for months, if not a full year. They last!

oh yes!! the deer antler - I forgot about that. Lab has had that for about 4 months and still working on it! They are TOUGH - and well worth the $25- $30 they cost. You'll get good 'bang for your buck' from a deer antler!

Good to know! Andrew's sister and BIL have a pit bull too, he destroys EVERYTHING. I wonder if it would live through him. Christmas is entertaining at their house. Brody opens his presents himself and then promptly and thoroughly kills all his gifts in under a half an hour. Sheesh. Funny to watch, but toys are :$$): in their household.

Mmhm! The pet store here has ones that are a good size for small dogs for $20. She'll definitely be getting one of those!

I have a pomeranian who has a compulsive chewing disorder and she has chewed threw every toy mentioned here except the deer antleer and the nylabone bones--the hard ones, not the gel like ones. Unfortunately, since she's so small, she's lost 4 teeth chewing on the nylabones. It's a trade-off--her sanity or her teeth. Her sanity won out--BTW her vet supports this. Anyway, nylabones can withstand the most vigorous chewers.

I'm so glad you're getting a dog. There's nothing better!

I believe the toughest toy you can get for a dog is a cat.

Kong toys are durable. Do you have a Pet Food Express by you? They have great staff that can recommend things for you. They are my favorite pet store.

CONGRATS ON THE NEW PUPPY!

At my store, (yes I own a dog store), I specialize in tough toys due to the nature of my own three beasts!

I second Havens pick of West Paw: They are guaranteed, made in US and very strong. My dogs haven't destroyed theirs yet. We have the Bumi and the ball.

Here's another great one: GoughNuts. Made in the US, will be replaced if chewed. I have sold over 300 of these in three years and only had one sent back for damage. They only sell their products through independant retailers or on their website : http://www.goughnuts.com/

If you want furry but no stuffing here is a great line: A Cheerful Pet. These are boiled wool toys made in Nepal and are Fair Trade
http://www.acheerfulpet.com/index.html My huge tough dogs play with the six foot tugzee and haven't done any real damage yet.

Antlers are also great!

Congrats on your new mini! So nice that you found one to adopt.

I have a mini schnauzer too. 5 year old male. Does not destroy his toys. I still have a bunch left from when we got him. I give him bully sticks a few times a week that he chews up quite nicely and tires him out. I get them in bulk (100 of the smoked regulat ones) from here: http://www.valuepetsupplies.com/ . I also get toys and other stuff from this place as well and have been for almost 4 years.

They do make toys without stuffing and squeakies in them as well that I get at a local feed mill near me.

I want to get my dog an antler as well and was told to cook them in chicken broth or rub peanut butter over it to entice yoru dog to eat. I don't know how true this is.

Definitely not the flexi ones! My Molly chewed those up quickly and she wasn't even much of a chewer. The "Durachews" are great, though. And definitely a deer antler.

Thank you! :)

Well I haz one of those! :naughty:
He won't want to play with the dog though, and thankfully she has lived with two cats in her foster home that she ignores. They should get along nicely!

I've got a few kongs on the list, thanks! We don't have Pet Food Express in FL :( We've got Petsmart, Petco, Pet Supermarket for the chains, and some smaller ones that are local.

Thank you for your input! I've heard of the Goughnuts! I will order one, thank you! And furry no stuffing suggestion is great! Thanks!

Thanks!! Bully sticks and things are definitely on the list! And Texas Toothpicks! Molly loved both of those.
