Hi Ladies! I feel chatty!

Every once in a while I decide to do some reasearch on style and fashion - try and perk up my wardrobe, or (if I don't have any money) at least be able to identify what this seasons trends are.

An ongoing project has been to try and figure out what my "colors" are so that whatever I wear is flattering to my skintone. I've looked over the whole "winter, spring, summer, autumn" colour scheme, and the warm, cool, midtone color scheme, and I've still got nothing.

So : Do you buy into any particular fashion color theory? What works for you (or doesn't)?

Videogames: My BF bought Torchlight as a surprise for me and I've been loving it. What have you been playing lately? (If not a videogame, tell me about your most recent hobby).

Cheers!

Ooooh...I love fashion!!

The colors that look best on me also happen to be my favorite colors: red and pink. I definitely prefer bright colors, warm colors, and pastel colors over darker colors when it comes to clothes. It's funny because if you open my closet, you'll see an array of reds, pinks, and whites, with some yellow and beige, but virtually no blues, purples, browns, oranges, or greys.

I do love black though, but since I have long dark black hair, wearing black doesn't make my hair stand out as much.

Trinny and Suzanna have a good book about colour matching which is a good basic guide. Personally I think an easy way to sus out what suits is to hold it up close to your face and see how your complexion changes. The right colours will make your skin look lively and great and not change your colouring too much, the wrong colours will make your skin tone look....wrong.

I can wear mid tones, pastels some brights ...just lots of colour. Black and brown make me look like death.

Also (as this is pricescope) I don't suit yellow gold because I have alot of red tones in my skin and it just clashes too much so white metal for me.

I just finished (as Mario anyway) Super Mario Galaxy and before that I finished deBlob. I like Boom Blox, we''ll be getting the new game soon I think, but I''ve gotten as far as I can in the one we have.

Great topic, HopeDream!

My mum taught me about colours when I was really young, so I''ve grown up knowing that I was a Winter and I should wear beautiful jewel tones. Convenient, no?

Like SparklyRing, I wear lots of blue-based red and blue-based pink. This goes nicely with my grad student uniform of jeans

Interestingly, my SO is as Autumn in colouring as they come. This caused some interesting miscommunication when I moved in with him and we redecorated his room. I had to use the Color Me Beautiful colour palettes to explain to him that when we say blue, he means one colour and I mean another. We just bought a house together, so our discussion about shades of blue (I like marine blue and he likes a beautiful steely blue) are continuing...

When trying to choose your own colours, I think you''ll be drawn to the colours/palette that suits you best. 4ever makes an excellent point: you can narrow down your season by identifying whether white metal or yellow metal pops against your skin better. Winters and Summers often choose white metals while Autumns and Springs often choose gold metals.

Have fun experimenting!

I''m not sure about the Autumn, Fall, Winter stuff, but I do know that I look like death whenever I wear nearly any shade of blue and I don''t look particularly good in red either (but I can do pink shades). My skintone also looks terrible in yellow, which is sad because yellow is my favorite color! I think purple is probably "my" color, since whenever I wear purple, I always get compliments that it looks good on me, and I don''t get those kinds of comments wearing any other color! However, most of my closet consists of white clothes - white tops, white sweaters, white dresses, I LOVE wearing white! :)

I don''t follow a color "theory", but I know what colors look good on me. I look good in bolds and jewel tones. I look bad in most yellow and green, and pastels don''t do anything for me, unfortunately. I do what 4ever said about holding it up to your face. That usually works well.

I''ve been addicted to Sims 3 recently, but that''s a computer game...I just finished Lego Indiana Jones, and now my BF and I are doing Lego Star Wars....I don''t like a lot of videogames, but I like the cute puzzly kind like that.

Fun questions, HD!

For colors, I''m fair-skinned, but with peachy undertones, dark blonde hair, and blue eyes. Fortunately, that pretty much means I can pull off almost anything, with the distinct exception of a few shades of yellow and orange, which just look ridiculous on me. Because of my shape, I only wear dark bottoms (jeans, dark brown pants, and black slacks) but my closet is full of tops in almost every color of the rainbow!

For gaming, my mother just bought FF and I a Wii for an early Christmas gift. We just set it up last weekend, and the only game we have right now is WiiSports. I''m enjoying it--I kicked his butt at bowling, but he beat me in both tennis and boxing. I''ve been doing some of the training with my Mii, too...so fun! I can''t wait to get more games!

Yay! This sounded like fun so I decided to do research on the seasonal coloring thing. Now, I think I am autumn. I could maybe be a spring, but my hair is pretty dark, and most things I read say that dark hair means autumn or winter, and light hair means spring or summer.

I am having a hard time between yellow undertones (autumn) or blue undertones (winter), but I have always thought I looked better in dark greens and browns, so I am further thinking autumn.

The only reason I think maybe spring, is because I have blue eyes. And light eyes (and hair) are usually spring or summer. So I''m really not sure. I still think I am probably an autumn. Anyone who knows more please post!

Now for video games! I have been playing Brutal Legend recently. I can''t wait for Zelda Spirit Tracks!

YAY videogames! I''m getting Zelda Spirit Tracks, New Super Mario Brothers Wii, Harvest Moon Animal Parade, and Harvest Moon Sunshine Island for Christmas!

I''m a bit fair skinned with auburn hair, brown eyes. I prefer gold jewelry. I wear brown, olive, yellow orange, cranberry, plum and teal.
My least favorite color is blue and my favorite color to wear is copper.

I think I''m autumn

It took me a while to figure out which colors look nice on me. I''d see myself in pictures and wonder what I was thinking. I''m very fair too with dark hair. I love wearing green, slate grey, jewel toned purple, cranberry. Unfortunately my fav. color (blue) looks pretty crappy on me.

Games I''m loving right now: The Sims 3 on pc, Wii Tennis always, scrabble on DS. I played Modern warfare with my bf last night and had the best time surprisingly. I never really liked shooter games but playing with him was a blast.

I love video games...and so does my bf. That''s actually one of the many things we enjoy together. I''m in the middle of playing Dragon Age on Xbox360. Unfortunately, PS has been taking away from my video game playing lately...lol. My other hobbies include sewing, needlecraft, crocheting and knitting. This reminds me...I should really pick up my cross stitching again if I want to have it done by Christmas....

I just got through Little Big Planet, though I want to do 100% eventually. I''ve been watching my bf play Dead Space, it''s pretty cool. We''ve got Toy Story Mania, but haven''t played it yet. It looks just like the ride at Disneyworld, if it is, it''ll be really fun!

Random.

I have no idea what season I am, with medium brown hair, blue-green-gray eyes and relatively pale skin...Anyway, I wear all colors except for brown. Brown makes me look like a zombie. I wear it in pants, but won''t touch brown shirts. I''d say I look best in green-blue-purple-pink. I don''t really do a lot of warm colors (reds-yellows) but they don''t look bad on me at all. I just prefer cool colors.

Hubs got me the expansion pack for Sims 3 for Christmas, and I need to play it already...

I don''t know about the seasons either but I know what does and does not flatter me.I have blond hair, greenish blue eyes and pale skin.

Flattering: black, white, dark blue, dark green, burgundy, true red, fuchsia, olive green and my favorite teal

Not Flattering: beige, gray, yellow, orange, brown, purple

Meh:pastels and bright greens and blues

Favorite metal: Rose gold

My DS is my constant companion as some carry a book.
Waiting for Miles Edgeworth to be released in the USA.

This is a fun thread, thanks for starting it!

I''m a firm believer that neutrals work well with any skin tones. I wear a lot of black, brown, grey, and earthy tones. I also really like the color green on me, and darker blues looks really nice on me. I would try starting with neutral and earthy tones, and then trying some of those. I do like pink on me sometimes, but it depends on the style of clothing, the same with lavender. Everyone else thinks I should try red, but I feel it''s far too bright on me.

I haven''t been playing any video games lately. I''ve been reading, and looking at wedding dresses (that''s the bad habit part haha). Also I''ve been studying Spanish, and cooking a lot.

I have red hair and pale skin with freckles - I find that bright blues look fantastic one me. I also love almost any shade of green and purple. Warm colors do not look good on me in general because they clash with my hair, though reddish-orange looks pretty good with my skin tone. I rarely wear black, but when I do I get compliments so I should wear it more often.

For videogames, whenever I can get DH to stop playing the new Call of Duty for an hour I like to play the new add-on to GTA - The Ballad of Gay Tony. Love the GTA series! Though the missions got really hard really fast, so I have DH do most of them while I do the driving

Here''s a seasonal color guide if anyone''s interested.

Gala icing color guide

It''s titled "fashion advice for recovering goths", but don''t let that throw you off - It''s a great intro to seasonal color theory.
there should be color palletes for each seasonal subtype - but they don''t always load - so you may heve to reload the page.

I''m pale-ish and my skin has a yellow undertone (or blueish? my veins show ), I have grey-blue eyes and light brown hair with a silvery, rather than golden undertone.
I can''t decide if I look better in sliver or gold (My BF says gold, my sister says silver).
All my life i though brown hair+blue eyes = autumn, but now i''m definately leading toward summer or winter.

My friend Emily has the theory that your clothing color should match your eye-color. (Simple and Easy)

No videogames recently as I''ve been spending all my time doing data entry

cheers!

Hmm ... finding my season is hard! I assumed there would only be four choices :-P I think I''m definitely an autumn - either deep or warm, I can''t decide. Interesting article! I''ve never heard of this color theory thing.

Your friend''s theory made me laugh though - so many people have brown eyes that if we just matched our eye color, we''d all be wearing drab shades of brown. Haha. Us brown eyed people would be even more jealous of those with pretty blue and green eyes.

I have to disagree with that. Black, white, brown and cold greys all look horrible with my skin tone and hair colour. I look so ''dead'' in them. I can only wear black if it''s far away from my face like a low scoop neck dress might be ok.

As for gaming, I''ve been playing alot of Borderlands on Xbox360, it''s my newest addiction.

I am thinking there must be some oveerlap in this season thing
as not all of us with the same coloring are choosing
to wear the same colors.

For me the eye test is very true
If I wear blue my eyes look more blue
If I wear green they look moe green
If I wear teal they look exactly that color
Purple they look gray
Haven''t noticed with other colors like red though.

Do you brown eyed folk se changes in your eyes too when you wear different colors?

My eyes can be more brown or more green - but it''s a subtle shift. I think it was more obvious when I was younger. Even when they''re green-ish you wouldn''t mistake them for green eyes. DH''s eyes are brown and don''t change color at all no matter what he wears.

Re: Matching eye color

I didn''t write that carefuly enough: clothing colors should compliment your eye color - clothing the same color as your eyes or one that goes with.

oops

Hmm not sure what colors I SHOULD wear, but I tend to wear autumn colors and jewel tones. Idk, even if I looked fabulous in pastels, I''d probably still wear jewel tones. I''m not particularly a girly girl so I own almost no pink and rarely wear pastels. I''ve been told I look good in mustard... (the color not the condiment). I wear a lot of earthy tones, brown, olive etc. I think I look best in rich colors, no matter what color scheme they are in. With light skin, blue eyes, and light brown hair, any thing that isn''t a rich color tends to wash me out.

Ditto this! I think pastels totally wash me out while deeper colors make my skin look awesome.

BF wants to buy me a pink Xbox controller.

Happy!
