OK so there is a lot on here about getting your ring insured, which I understand. But why would one have their ring insured through a separate carrier from their homeowners policy? I see on here where Chubb comes recommended....but isn''t it easier to just add a jewelry rider to your existing policy? Is it that you get more coverage elsewhere?

And also, with respect to timing...once the ring leaves the vendor (during shipment) how/who is the ring covered? Would my BF get the coverage from the time it leaves the vendor until he gives it to me and then once its in my possession (literally) his coverage stops and then my coverage takes over??

Just wanting to make sure we are covered at all times....

PS. How do you find a appraiser in your area once you have the ring? Just go to any reputable jeweler? I assume that most would recommend getting an independent appraisal once you have the ring? Is more than 1 appraisal recommended?

Sorry for all the q''s.....Liz

You can have the ring on your home insurance, but some people feel better going with a different insurer because they offer different terms and conditions. Some insurer give you the money to replace it, others have you use one of their jewellers - all different types of things. Read the fine print of whoever you want to go with to make sure that you're covered how you want to be.

In shipping the ring, the jeweller will insure it with the postal carrier. Once the ring is in your hands, it's your job to insure it. You can call and insure it the second it arrives on your doorstep, sometimes before that even. Some people wait a couple of weeks and shop around, which is fair enough, just don't damage it in the meantime!
