Hi all,
just wondering if Harold Weinstein is still the most recommended appraiser in Toronto. I looked at the company website today, and it says Harold Weinstein is now retired (http://www.hwgem.com/hwabout.htm). I''ve seen some recommendations here for Martin Sheffield (who is my vendor, i.e. not independent for my needs!) and for EGL. Is EGL trustworthy, since there seems to be some concern about their grading on certificates? Any other names and info would be helpful, especially in the North York or downtown areas.

Thanks!

I had a ring appraised by Michael Stern, GG, ARP, RMV, with Gems Appraisals on Victoria St in Toronto last week. They were reccomended by my diamond broker.

Awesome, thanks! You''re answering all my questions for me, customcushion!

I''ll call them tomorrow. I assume it''s the same process as at HW, i.e. sit in the waiting room and you get a written report?

I went to HW - he didn''t do it, but one of his associates did. Felt like the appraised value was over inflated a little too much for my liking, but yes, HW is still very reputable.

Good luck!

Swayed, I was not present for the appraisal, I had my broker handle it, who I trust implicitly. When I picked up my ring, I had the written appraisal waiting for me.

Hi all, just a quick update. I called gems appraisers and HW, but I was only able to get through to HW. I booked an approintment for Thurs, but the also had plenty of approintments available on other days. So I don''t think you need to count it on it being a two week wait necessarily.
