Hi guys,

This year marks my partner and I twentieth anniversary and my partner agreed that I can upgrade my ring. I've been reading about the Octavia diamond on this board since the beginning and I fell in love with the cut. I went to GOG and Jonathan showed me an Octavia diamond along with a August Vintage Asscher cut. I like the AVA too! So I just want to see which diamond you guys and gals like. Sort of like a poll :)

here's the video of the two cuts:

thanks

Hard to tell... I can't decide!

I really like them both, but my eye was more drawn to the Octavia. Maybe it's the smaller table? Maybe it's the four central steps? I dunno!

They're really completely different cuts. It's like deciding between a cushion and a radiant; or which is better, chocolate ice-cream or vanilla. I would suggest, close your eyes and imagine a ring appears on your hand. Which stone is it?

cant comment........................ but its killin me not to!

Tell us how you really feel?.... Yeah I know the rules, so bite your tongue...:P2:devil::lol:

Dancing Fire, how do you like your GA setting? I was looking at a Steve. Kretchner setting but I have some reservations about it

Ac117 what do you mean by "Steps seem to wide"
Thb

I don't love the inner facets of the AVA - the steps seem too wide compared to the rest of the stone IMO!

They do to me too - it's too "busy" around the periphery, and the inner steps seem too wide - it's like 2 different stones photoshopped together. If it's going to carry the AV branding, I would have expected them to look more like true antiques. jmho.

Octavia all the way....

I think the new cut is just another different 'flavour' of diamond - I don't think it's for me, but then being the male of the species, I'm probably more inclined towards strong geometric patterning (EC, traditional asscher, Octavia) rather than 'pretty' patterning (a la OEC, for example) :)

Either way, I think it's great that a new cut with great light performance is coming to the market! Well done @Rhino!

Is this another @Karl_K design and another @diagem cut? :)

Octavia.. wow..

Both are beautiful diamonds, but the Octavia gets my vote!

The first GA setting was crooked then they made this second one for me and I have been wearing it for 3 yrs now w/o any problem. SK is too rich for my blood his settings starts at about $5K? and he only do WG, YG or Plat. My GA setting is 500 fine palladium which is cheaper.

AVA is a great step cut round !

Octavia, still the current standard square step cut of the Platonic Republic ...

Not all of his settings start at 5K, he created a pretty amazing halo/plain shank setting for a friend for under 3k in the beginning of the year. He is very easy to work with and quick with his work. OP, I would reach out to him for a quote, it can't hurt.

Left: Octavia 1.22ct. I'm in love with this Cut...it's on my wish list!
I reached out to GOG, last year, when my DH (FF, then) were designing bespoke wedding bands; I wanted to use Octavia Asschers in the design, but Octavias are not cut small enough (at least, not yet) to fulfill the design we wanted.
Someday, I will add the Octavia to my collection!
I can't wait to see which you choose!!!

Wow, though choice! I think it comes down to the outline of the stone for me. Whether you like something more squarish (Octavia) or more of a roundish
look (AVA). It did look like the AVA was slightly brighter though the center (Jon said they opened it up some).

For me, my choice would be the Octavia.

Difficult decision, indeed. I'm more drawn to the Octavia at first glance, but the AVA is so intriguing! Why can't there be a third option... both? :lol-2:
