With 3 1/2 months until the wedding, I'm starting to think about the little details. We've been going over our options for table numbers/names. Future MIL is not a big fan of table numbers because guests might be insulted if they're seated at a high number and I get that.

An idea that I really liked was using places that FI and I have traveled together as table names and using our travel photos to display the names. But FI and I are very lucky in that we've been able to do a lot of traveling that many of our guests wouldn't be able to afford. Travel is the real place where FI and I splurge and school/work has also brought us abroad a few times.

So my question to you, would it be showy to have a photo of us in one of our favorite destinations on each table?

I think it is charming! Besides, I would assume most of your guests know of your love of travel, so it seems fitting.

i think its great that you all are able to travel so much! how awesome!!! but i do see how it can come across as a little showy to others not able to lol. Maybe you can do a couple places you have traveled and then some facts about you as a couple? I dunno I say do what ya want! its your wedding!!! :D

Not at all.. DH and I travelled extensively before we got married and continues to be one of our passion. For our wedding, we didn't have pictures but instead of a table number, each table was assigned a place that we went to and a little tidbit how it was relevant to our lives. People seemed to enjoy it did not find it at all showy. I think the pictures would be a nice touch.

My friends named tables after important places for them, not just places they have traveled. Included in table names were the cities where they had lived together and the name of the town where the university they attended (and met) was located. They also had travel-related stuff but instead of a picture they just included a description of why the place was important for them.

St Maarten- Jack and Jill were on a vacation in St Maarten celebrating Jill's graduation from her masters degree program when Jack proposed!

Boston- Boston is where Jack and Jill lived together while Jill attended graduate school. This is also where they were living when they adopted Fluffy into their family.

etc.

And to answer your original question- no I don't think it's showy. It's a fun way to make the whole thing more personal.

I've had friends who have done this, and I never thought it was showy at all. Plus, being sat at the "St. John" table is way cooler than plain old "Table 8."

What a great conversation starter too! I can imagine people wandering around during the reception to see more of your pictures.

I think pictures are wonderful and not too showy at all. The people coming probably know you love to travel and would just enjoy seeing your pictures. Having some fun bits of information would be nice too -- about you specifically and stuff about the culture/location too.

Thank you everybody! I'm so glad to see an overwhelming "Go for it!" :appl:

definitely go for it :) some friends of my FI did this at their rehearsal dinner and it was super cute, they had a little thing about why each place was important to the couple.

when I saw the title of this thread I thought it was going to be about a dress!

That is such a cute idea!

DH and I love to travel too, wish we'd thought of this before our wedding 8)

I hope not because the table numbers at our beach wedding were named after other international beaches that we had traveled to.

No, this sounds interesting, not showy.

When I read "Too Showy?" I was visualising a money bouquet, diamond studded centre peices and gold embossed invitations.......mmmmmm.

I think it's a beautiful idea, and one that I would admire were I to be invited to your wedding. Please go for it.

Thank you guys! I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to make any of my guests feel uncomfortable.

But now that you mention the dimaond-studded centerpieces.... j/k
